In Illinois, the buyer will pay tax again on a used car purchased from a private party. I don't know how you Cali guys do it.....
Hope your sale goes quick

The OP is delusional. Every time a car changes ownership you pay tax again. When you go to register it you have to fill out a form stating the purchase price and - unless you lie and risk getting charged with tax evasion - you pay tax on the stated purchase price. Sure you can put lower and probably get away with it, but if it's drastically different than fair value, I promise you will get audited by DMV.

That's BS! So if a car changed hands 10x in a year, it gets tax 10x?? Isn't that double taxation? We are getting screwed more ways than one by our government but I don't wanna get into that.

Anyways, the car is 38k, tax included.

Yes. Every time a car is registered tax is applied to the sale price stated on the title.

BTW, I went to a few dealers over the weekend and found 0 miles 08 leftovers priced at $37-38k. You may need to consider a little more "hit" to your car to move it.

UMM, about the tax thing. If it is a private party sale within the state, meaning you sell in CA to someone who lives in CA, there is no tax. If I buy a car in AZ, and bring it to CA to register it, CA charges me state sales tax. CA cannot charge a CA resident tax AGAIN after the original owner paid taxes and it was sold private party, thats illegal buddy.

Looks great. Maybe a tad too high. I think 36-37 would be a much better selling point.
