NEW NEWS FROM INFINITI!!! SOME GOOD Some not so much!
Just a little something I found online. Probably all speculation but Being that Motor Trend is the source we will see I guess. (sorry if this is old news its new to me! )
Infiniti appears to have some impressive products in its pipeline, including a next-generation G powered by a twin-turbo V6 with 530 hp. The relationship between the Japanese automaker and Mercedes-Benz is picking up full steam and will go beyond the upcoming Benz-based compact. For 2014, Infiniti will be producing next-generation four-cylinder engines for both Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti models at its Nissan Tennessee plant. And as we reported before, the first C-segment hatchback will be produced by Magna Steyr in Austria.
But the big news is that the next-generation G will start production in 2014 and is slated to go on sale by summer of that year. The Japanese automaker’s goals is to build on top of its highly-successful model by launching it in 70 countries worldwide. Apparently the design for the next G was finalized in June of last year and is shared with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class platform.
Overall length and width is expected to stay the same as the current-generation G, but it will have a lower roofline in the style of a four-door coupe. The sedan will debut first in 2014, with the coupe variant following in 2015. Infiniti is also considering a crossover variant, which makes sense.
What has us uber excited is that the IPL-spec G will feature a 3.7-liter twin-turbo V6 powerplant pumping out 530 hp and will probably be priced competitively with the GT-R, if not more In fact, the inside source that reported to Motor Trend compares it to the C63 pricing. The new IPL engine will be hand-made in the same plant where the GT-R is produced out in Tochigi, Japan.
Will this be the new supercar from Japan that will be somewhat affordable?

The thing I don't get is why Nissan is making a car that can be considered a competition to the GTR. . . . . price and specs wise. The GTR is Nissan's halo/supercar and it doesn't make sense to develop a similar vehicle. In that sense, I'm a bit skeptical about this news.

Because some people like the Infiniti name, and would pay for the higher brand name sports car than the regular Nissan. I would consider it giving more choices though than directly competing with the GTR, think G vs Z two options that aren't really direct competition while sharing the same interest groups. Some people just prefer one over the other.

If it is as cool as they say they will be though, im putting myself in for a preorder. Perfect timing too my G will be paid off in a couple years

At the top of the model range, Infiniti plans a so-called “Super G” that will be somewhat similar to the Nissan GT-R. The car will have a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter V-6 producing about 530 hp. The engine will be assembled at the same Tochigi factory responsible for the GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6. Infiniti reportedly plans for its “Super G” to take on Germany’s performance-coupe mainstays, the BMW M3 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Expect pricing around $100,000.

I dont think its going to be in the 100k range. they would never sell. 60-70k is more like it. Better luxury than the GTR w/ less performance but still more than enough to hang with the competition. Infiniti is not stupid. They wont make a car they can not sell the hell out of. Japanese car makers dont make that mistake.
The Next IPL is going to a True Super Car. A proper Gentleman's! GT. It's going up there with the Ferrari F12, The 2013 911 S, Maserati Quattroporte GTS.
I say if the GT-R is $98K then the Infiniti IPL will be at $115K Loaded with all the Bells the GTR does not have like 16 speaker sound system.
