7 speed auto for 2009 model?

Will this be a sure thing? If yes, will it be standard or an option?

They are rumors about it, but I HIGHLY doubt it is possible. If anything it will be for the 2010 or 2011

IMO it's highly possible since it doesn't make sense to keep two different kind of transmission in your fleet when the new FX and euro G35 already gets it.

The 09 Sedan is being equipped with the 7 speed JATCO tranny, so I'd say it's a pretty safe assumption that the Coupe will get it as well.

That's a good question about whether or not it'll come standard. I still think their sport models will be priced higher, so it probably will come standard. I would've seriously considered getting auto if 7spd was available for this generation.

I wonder what the gas mileage on that thing's gonna be...

One thing's for sure, it will not be an "option" it will either be a 7AT or 6MT.

For one, better gas mileage on the highway.

Shorter gearing in each gear allows for faster acceleration. Think about it as higher Final Drive upgrade for MT cars but improvement on gas milage as well.

I would expect them to put the 7 AT in the coupe in 2010, since that will be time for their mid cycle refresh.

I'm not so sure about that. If the 09 G37 Sedan will be equipped with one, I can only assume the G37 Coupe will as well. The Sedan and Coupe have always shared the same tranny options so I don't see them changing that now. Besides, I don't think Infiniti can afford to wait until the 2010 MY to introduce a 7AT when pretty much all of the competition is already offering more gears. Just my .02 cents at least.

I totally agree with you. Every car the G37 competes against has at least a 6AT. I don't think they can go on longer with a 5AT (especially considering the 335i is already the faster car. This may help to steer some of the 6AT 335i buyers to the G37).
