Help New engine has stock oil cooler, old engine does not

New engine has stock oil cooler, old engine does not

Hi all,

I am swapping the engine from my 2009 G37x with one from a 2014 Q50 due to throwing a rod. The engines are nearly identical except one thing. The Q50 engine appears to have some sort of stock oil cooler. Here is a pic of the lines coming off the oil filter for it. Both appear to go into the driver's side of the engine.


I've tried doing some searching but I cannot find much info on this. Everything I read says the engines are identical and can just be swapped in and out. One post I found said this is standard on the Q50 engines, but requires some sort of pressurized tank to operate properly.

Can anyone give me some more info on this piece?

My biggest question is what the best course of action is to take here. As far as I see it there are 4 options:

1. Leave as is, without adding any parts and move on with the swap. (Will this cause any future problems or issues? )
2. Obtain the necessary pieces from a Q50 to make the oil cooler function as stock. (If so can you tell me what parts are needed?)
3. Replace with the parts from the old engine. This would probably only require removing the sandwich between oil filter and engine, and replacing the points where the lines enter the engine.
4. Install an aftermarket cooler instead. (I assume this is the priciest option, so trying to steer clear of this)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I vote to remove/replace with parts from you original engine. Coolant circulates through the unit to help heat up the oil to operating temps faster. It doesn't cool the oil as much as it helps bring it up to temps faster.
I would install an aftermarket oil cooler for actual cooling.

I'm 90% sure that the pan will work with the G37 diff however in the past we swap the entire upper pan with the one in the car.
You could remove the whole cooler and buy an OIL FILTER stud from nissan $15 and use that and it will work.

Attempting to run the oil cooler on the factory reservoir will lead to coolant overflowing, oil cooler system is mean to use a pressurized expansion tank and not a reservoir.
