Help Any tips for refreshing an engine?
Hi all. I recently snagged up a 37 with blown engine at 130k miles for pretty cheap and have been going through the process of replacing it. I picked up a 3.7 from a 2014 Q50 with 65k miles on it for under 1k at a junkyard nearby. Pulled up the history on the Q50 and looks like it had oil changes at every suggested interval before the car was totaled out.
The engine looks like it has been sitting for a bit pulled from the car, I do know this was at most for a year. It was kept inside of a building, but still seems to have put on a little bit of rust on the grooves of the idler pulleys and the crankshaft pulley. I plan on taking the pulleys from the old engine and just swapping them over. I also plan on upgrading to all silicone hoses from Z1, replacing the spark plugs with new OEM ones, replacing coolant with OEM Blue, and doing a fresh oil change with Ester.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for what else to replace or refresh while the motor is out of the car?

Is there really any reason to check gallery gaskets on a 2014 VQ? I know there has been 1 or 2 instances of the metal gasket failing, but that is definitely a decent sized addition to this project. I also hadn't planned on checking the chain as the engine only has 65k on it I figured it would be fine. Any reason in particular you suggest these, or just for peace of mind?
Do really appreciate the mention of doing a compression check, hadn't crossed my mind with everything else going on. I did ensure that the crank wasn't siezed, but hadn't thought of checking compression.

The problem with a used engine is yu don't know how it was driven. At 65K, if it was abused, there could be terminal internal damage. How about getting a UOA on the remaining oil in the engine and possibly a leakdown test? Put new belts on it while it's out and readjust them when the engine is installed.
My thought is to pull the timing cover now, while the motor is already pulled, as this the bulk of the time/expense when/if something does fail in the future.
For peace of mind, install an oil pressure gauge
