Updated Gallery Gasket

2012 G37xs 7AT 180xxx kms

So I’m changing the timing chain and sprockets on my G37 and I figured that I might as well change the Gallery Gaskets for maintenance. From my knowledge only 2013 models have the updated ones but the gaskets I took off aren’t blown and they’re a metal material.

This shocked at first but then I remember that I read on the forum that they updated the gaskets in the fall of 2012. My manufacture date is December 2012. Is what I read true?

Also, I’m debated whether to change the old ones out since I’m already here and keep the old ones just in case. Or just put the old ones back in and save the new ones.

Thanks

I bought 3 sensors for a car I bought that I just didnt test correctly and ended up not needing them. I had already spent the money on them, they were also in much better shape so they ended up being installed.
Although it's metal, it has a compressible layer of paper/cardboard/gasket material that surrounds it and it's a one time use.

Replace your gasket and do your best at making sure the plate is tight and torqued.

Alright will do. thanks.

I know this is unrelated, but after I’m done this job (sprockets, timing chain, etc), do I need to do a relearn process or does the car relearn on its own. I asked an Infiniti tech and he said it relearns on its own but I just want a second opinion/answer from someone with good knowledge about this.

It re-learns on its own. Usually a disconnected battery for a few minutes deletes any cam codes you might have had stored.

grade 8 Allen head style

Much easier to torque properly
