Question Spark Plugs

I read the DIY spark plug replacement thread. My dealer wants them changed. They want $700 !
I found a guy that will do it for $550. Is that reasonable? Includes parts. The reason for my post is do I really need them replaced? I have a 2012 sedan with only 56,000 miles. Mostly city driving. Ten years old. The service guy told me every 7 years or 100k. Hesitant to blow that much cash. I really don't feel comfortable doing it myself.
Opinions?

Replacing plugs isn't a hard job on this car:

Understandable if you're not comfortable at DIY'ing though. I would give Seb at Speciality Z a call, he's up the road from you in Simi Valley:

https://www.specialtyz.com/?SID=23cc...4d7abad6829582

He might be able to give you a better price.
It's not an immediate need at all so I would just keep shopping around, someone will do it for $250-$300 parts and labor.

You can save yourself a lot of money by reading the maintenance book that came with your car (or download it from Infiniti)
Dealers & shops love the additional profit by replacing parts BEFORE they need to be.. and since most don't read the maintenance section, they get scammed.

According to the maintenance schedule for a G37, plugs require replacement at 105,000 miles regardless of how much time has passed.

Yes I read that & that is why I never gave it much thought & kept it at the bottom of my maintenance list. The service manager spooked me with the 7 year thing. He probably made it up, lol

Yup... spark plugs don't age/wear when they are not in use.
Most of the time the service advisor earns more commission on the more services they sell... so keep that in mind.

I changed my plugs for the first time last year on my 2011 G37. They were 10 years old and had 110,000 miles on them.
The car ran great before replacement and the car ran great after replacement.

if you don't really want to mess with it maybe another option is checking a nissan dealer.
I've been thinking about changing the valve cover gaskets and the local nissan dealer quoted replacing the gaskets and spark plugs for $600
I ended up buying the parts from Z1 and planning to do the job myself sometime soon.

g/l

That's a great idea. I used to take my G35 to Nissan for major service. So much cheaper, but you give up the free car wash 😉

OEM denso plugs have a history of being pretty robust. Service managers also have a history of going by service intervals in form of preventative maintenance.
Unless your vehicle is giving you problems disregard this.
In the mean time you can source some legitimate Denso plugs (stay away from Amazon/Ebay ones) and spend 20hours online disecting the process.
Being that these plugs can range from $10-15 each depending on where you get them from can mean the difference total price as you search for quotes.

Unsure what the book demands as far as hours per fix however at $90-100 for parts means he's charging you $100hr which is a bit too much.
Even so If you can source the parts yourself you can lower this estimate, you might get lucky with a local enthusiast that could do the work for you.
At under 60k miles we can count on the engine being somewhat solid still so there shouldn't be any unexpected part failure.

Thanks for that lead. Seb took care of me & my G37. They do everything there & saved me a lot of cash. Highly recommended if you are in my area.

I had my OEM spark plugs changed out at 45K miles when I decided to go E85.

Got the work done at Specialty Z with Seb as well

I inspected the original spark plugs and they still looked good (tips were not corroded)
