Shift button stuck

The button on my shift **** isn't coming back up when in park, and I have to manually pull it back up each time I put my car in park. I think I know what's holding it down, but im not sure how to fix it. The button is very springy in R, N, D but only gets stuck in Park.. I took a picture of the part I think I holding it down..

Does anyone know what could be going on?

OEM shift knøb or aftermarket?

When you press down on the manual shift lock release button (big, white plastic square), does it move easily or does it have resistance?

A few SMALL shots of WD-40, or equiv. lubricant might free up that slider (area in yellow circle). Over time the grease the factory used becomes hardened and tends to bind. Just do NOT spray too much so as to get the electronic lock module wet!

The shift lock release is very stiff, doesn't work at all I think, I actually tried spraying some WD40 on it but it hasn't loosed up. 😢

Then really the only option, depending on how brave you are, would be to remove the two screws holding the interlock module and unclip the wiring connector at the bottom. From there, you can lubricate all of the moving parts, especially the slides. With the manual release pressed, the slider should move absolutely freely.

The two screws are circled in blue:

There is also a small wiring connector at the bottom of the module.

It might be helpful to remove the center console to gain access as it is a very tight working space. If you are not careful you will drop one those screws into the abyss below.

Once removed you can check the interlock for signs of dirt, wear, and get everything greased back up. Again, that actuator slide should move without any resistance once the manual button is pressed down.

Installation is the reverse of removal- just make sure the metal tab slides onto the actuator slide (green arrow).
