Gear whine on Acceleration

Hi all

getting loud gear whine on acceleration only over 35mph and up! When i let go of the gas pedal…. The noise completely goes away. Seems tied somehow.

I've had the same thing for years lol. No idea what it is. I'm '08 6spd with tech package. I just turn my music up loud enough to drone it out ha. I distinctively notice it around 70mph I think but then goes away I think a bit higher around 80mph. I've just learned to live with it.

Maybe someone else can chime in. I think this has been discussed before, maybe try the search feature for some threads about it.

thanks for your post! Ive searched and not seeing alot of similar situations….

its so odd to me how I can literally floor it to 40+ MPH then let go of the pedal and the noise is gone.

ive been thinking of swapping out my dif and ring and pinion, bearings etc to see if there is a change in noise. It sounds like gear whine to me but its strange its on accel only

What gear? All gears, then probably diff or driveshaft related. Just 4th or 5th? Change trans fluid to Redline.

all gears - driveshaft was upgraded to carbon fiber one piece about 4 years ago.

I believe I have the VLSD, noise common when they wear out?

redline in diff and trans always

VLSD don't usually make any noise - the part that controls slip is fluid. It just... stops working as well.

Could be driveshaft u-joint if it's in all gears. Diff bearing? Wheel bearing? CSC bearing? Either one of them could make noise under load, specifically acceleration. Can you have someone sit in the back seat and try to pinpoint the noise source (IE, front, rear, or middle of the car)?
