Clutch chattering at idle?

Hey guys got a 2010 g37s 6mt and it has an awful chattering when not in gear and idling. Noise goes away when clutch depressed... Previous owner installed a full exedy clutch kit p/n
NSK 1024FW. Is this sound normal? To me it sounds like a sewing machine that's about to blow. Is this due to the lighter flywheel? Any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Aftermarket clutches usually have a lot of chatter, it’s just how they are. I have an OEM clutch/flywheel combo and it’s still kinda loud for me. This is my first manual car so I don’t really have anything to compare it to, I guess just get used to it. The only solution I can think of is change the flywheel and clutch back to OEM. If I were you, I would just keep driving.

That noise is not clutch chatter. That noise is likely a bad/failing throw out bearing from not being lubed properly.

Clutch chatter is a shudder that happens when the clutch is initially engaged but doesn't engage smoothly or properly.

Yeah that’s not the normal flywheel chatter, sounds like it could be the throw out bearing

That would be chatter due to the lighter flywheel. More noise is transferred from the transmission due to not having a move heavier/solid flywheel ,perfectly normal.you can go back to a heavier flywheel but what's the fun in that?lol.
Not sure why you would think it is the throw out bearing as it is not moving or engaged while in neutral that's assuming that it's a clutch fork design which l'm more than sure it is as he went through the trouble of a lighter flywheel. There is a air gap between the bearing and clutch fins s no rotation from the bearing until depress. So actually if it was the bearing it would get louder when depressing the clutch as that's when it rotates and quiet when released as this is not the case
So yes ,Completely normal and fine with the set up you have in the car

I've never heard of chatter from a lightweight flywheel and I have owned a car with one. And throw out bearings can make noise in neutral if failing or not properly lubed, that's why i said what I said.

A throw-out bearing can make noise in neutral. The sound is more predominate (noticeable) when the clutch is pressed as the bearing is under a load.

I've had a light rattle for years, only noticeable when parked next to a wall or another car, and sitting at idle with the windows down. It goes away when depressing the clutch pedal. Release the clutch pedal while in neutral, and it comes right back. Once you hear it, you can't un-hear it. And it's been doing it for as long as I can remember, having owned this car for almost 9 years.

Input shaft bearing noise, I think. But mine is way more subtle than what you've got going on. Yours is pretty loud.

Not necessarily. It all depends on the condition on the TOB. I've had a TOB noise only in neutral, (went away when I pushed the pedal) pulled the trans to either replace, or grease the shaft that it rides on, and put it back together and the noise was gone. I'm not alone.

So a lightweight fly wheel with twin disc clutch would make the chattering sound while the clutch is being pressed to the floor. It's a very loud and noticeable grinding noise. If its making noise while your foots not on the clutch something is definitely not right. I had a Toyota jzx100 MKII and I put an exedra twin disc and a lightweight flywheel and it would chatter when pushing the clutch in. I wouldn't worry about it if the car drives fine and shifts fine.

I have that, it's the transmission input shaft, got the dealership to look at it under warranty. They replaced the fluid and it was quieter but didn't go away so they gave me a new transmission about 2 months before my warranty expired

The noise went away after that for maybe 10 to 20K miles and it came back. It's annoying but not a big deal, it'll be fine.
