6MT Clutch Chatter
6MT Clutch Chatter
I recently bought a 2010 G37 6MT Coupe with 46k miles on it. The clutch was not ideal so I quickly purchased and installed the RJM clutch pedal kit. One issue I was having prior to the RJM was some clutch chatter and I thought the kit would fix the problem. Unfortunately, the issue is somewhat worse due to the longer clutch engagement window. Even if the car is sitting still and idling, if I release the clutch slowly you can feel the clutch start grabbing unevenly (light chatter). Obviously the chatter is worse under greater loads. Is this common? I did a search and found a couple hits but the issue does not appear to be widespread. The car is still under factory warranty and I have an appointment on Thursday but I wanted to see if anyone else has similar issues even after installing the RJM.
If the clutch or flywheel are worn or if there is hot spotting or contaminants like oil on the friction surfaces the RJM pedal will do nothing to help. This would not likely be covered under warranty either, unless you can prove there is a defect. These parts are considered wear items just like brakes or tires.
I'm at 70k and while engaging my clutch results in a lot of chatter supposedly coming from my throw out bearing. The clutch itself feels great, but sounds horrible. With that, noise only occurs in first and second gear.
It is your Slave Cylinder. Replace the clutch slave cylinder and I promise you....all that chatter will be reduced by easily 60%.
I had tons of chatter on my G37 Sedan at only 8,000 miles. Finally..at 12K, the CSC f*ck1ng blew out. Dealer replaced it under warranty, with fresh new fluid, and boy was that a whole new car to drive.
The slave cylinders are defective!
