Help What purpose does the pilot bushing/ pilot converter serve (A/T)?

Post What purpose does the pilot bushing/ pilot converter serve (A/T)?

So what is the exact purpose of the pilot bushing? (part number is 12330-14L0A). Hopefully this isnt too stupid of a question but I do not see an express purpose for it since the flexplate bolts straight to the torque converter.

It will make sense if you had a pic of the transmission as well. You would be able to see the output shaft slides in their and the pilot bushing is used to keep it aligned and it from moving around. It pilots the transmission into place.

As mentioned above, the G37's torque converter has a shaft in the middle of the torque converter.
This ensures the torque converter is EXACTLY centred on the crankshaft:
