Help Automatic stalls when put in drive
Automatic stalls when put in drive
Hey guys. I have a 2013 g37 sedan automatic with 85k miles. Today when I cold started my car everything was completely normal. Had it running for a few minutes before I was gonna drive it.
Before I put it in drive the rpm was normal, I think like 600ish. Once I put it in drive the car shook for a second the the rpms went down and it stalled. I tried turning it on again and it started normally. But once again when I put it in drive it stalled.
I was looking around the forums and saw people said cleaning the throttle bodies usually helps rpm issues. I won’t have time to do it until tomorrow morning.
I was just asking now to see if anyone can give a second thought. Do you guys think it’s just the throttle bodies or maybe something else?

Forgot to mention I ran the code checker I have from amazon and it gave me three codes. They all said o2 sensors problem. Figured that was because of my test pipes so didn’t mention that. The codes were p0138, p0139, and p0159. They said slow response and high voltage.
Gonna run the test again once I get home tonight with the engine still cold instead of hot.

I have had this issue where my rpm would drop when at a stop and it would vibrate, and it has stalled once but it has stopped now. I noticed it stopped doing it after I changed my oil and cleaned my MAF sensor, so maybe try cleaning out the MAF sensor see if it helps you by any chance. If anything might as well clean out the throttle bodies too if you haven’t done it and see if that will help in anyway.
Aright so I cleaned the throttle bodies but it didn’t solve the problem. Also no new codes or anything.
And also I tried to drive from a cold start, it worked for a minute but started stalling again once the car’s temp starting going to normal.
Any one have any another input. Might have to take it to the mechanics next week when I’m off.
I was reading somewhere that someone said it might be transmission related. Hopefully not.

Did you do the idle re-learn process and other processes after cleaning them?
You can watch the Motorvate DIY youtube video on "what to do after cleaning throttle bodies" and he goes step by step.
I guess for the part where the car needs to be warmed up, you can just idle it for a bit since it only dies in drive.
Try this if you haven't and see if it works.

Change your oil, clean your MAFs, do the ECM reboot process - my 2013 did this a few times, and stopped after a ECM relearn and an oil change. I was using mobile 1, went Valvoline synthetic and every thing is great at 120k.
