I wash checking my drop-ins and noticed this, on driver's side:


Looks like the PVC piping on the bottom of the resonator is broken...

I wouldn't be concerned, but it looks like this piping feeds into the top of the block or cylinder head?

Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like there was some adhesive applied there (yellow/white blob).
Maybe a glue or epoxy. I'm wondering if this was broken previously and glued back together by previous owner or shop.

I put the silicone intake tubes in, but it seems unlikely to me that the small change in angle from the stock intake tube could shear the piping like this.
Thoughts?
Should I be concerned with particles being sucked into the motor?

I'll look for a replacement.
From what I can tell, it's component #20 in the diagram... "PVC pipe"


Can anyone confirm for me if I have this correct or not?
Recommendations on best place to find a OEM replacement that's not ridiculous dealer priced?

Or maybe this is a good chance to make an upgrade to... I don't know?

Outcome = undecided

From my reading, this is part of the PCV System, cycling air (pressure) from the crank case back into the intake.
It's a bit of an odd component, that seems to exist between the PCV and Intake Systems.
There is a hose from the Rocker Cover to the underside of the resonator, where the break is, and another from the top side of the resonator to the Intake ("Air Cleaner" as they call it)

It seems Infiniti does not sell this (stupid) plastic box individually, but instead as a part of the complete "Air Duct" assembly.

A bit ridiculous if you ask me. It's a simple, plastic box.
2 clamps and I could swap it in 30 seconds.

It happened to me a week ago when I was cleaning my throttle bodies - It's very fragile, a gentle push broke the PCV pipe - Looked everywhere to find the part without any luck - Every shop that I checked was trying to sell it with the intake tube.

So I ordered the EPS tuning PCV delete kit and installed that instead. Looks much better and I think it's a good upgrade when you're in this situation

It's always these tiny things that drive me nuts.

Yeah, trying to decide which way to go without wading into the PCV Delete vs Oil Catch Can debate.

I did a lot of research, I think the PCV delete is OK if you are NA and not supercharged/turbocharged - Plus the catch can system is expensive

Worse comes to worse, can always swap the breathers if they seem to be oil-soaked I suppose.

My
.02 cents. If you have kids a wife or value your health do not do pcv delete atleast to atmosphere because these are straight gas fumes that enter the cabin. To me 10x worse than test pipes. I did it and instantly regretted it. So that little piece is hollow inside. Literally nothing. So a 3 way pipe or t fittings is all that's needed to keep things happy.

Thanks for the insight. I'm still hoping to find an OEM part for now, but might end up doing some home fabricating if it comes to that.

with the hole in the system you will probably get a CEL at some point when the system does a check, maybe after 500-1000miles/kms or something..probably gonna be a P4XX code, it may cause a lean condtion if the system tries to compensate...for the unmetered air entering post MAF

You can delete the PCV system (go catchcan/open or closed loop etc...) but you can also just bridge that connection (the little box is just a resonator) with some standard PCV hose to reseal the system...or you can put up a WTB in the classifieds I'm sure lots of ppl have oems lying around

I had the same/similar problem with alignment with my HPS intakes BTW. the Driver side caused major alignment issues...you can trim the HPS pipe at the TB on a bit of an angle and it will change the angle of the whole pipe giving more clearance to those PCV pipes..use a very sharp blade, put some painters tape on the outside and brace against something stiff inside the pipe to get a clean cut
