Need Help - Low Pressure indication light came on

Hello all, I have a 2013 G37 Sedan with about 88k miles. Never had any problems and always had up to date maintenance. Last night, i started the car and started driving, a little while and boom the oil light came on. Since my car is 2013 I am not suspecting the timing cover gasket issue. I have placed the order for oil pressure sensor. Has any one have had this problem? Car is not in limp mode, neither heating up nor loosing any oil.

Oil level? Any error codes?

What prompted you to just order a pressure sensor without knowing what the issue may, or may not, be?

oil lever is 100%. no error codes just the oil light.

I called a stealership near me and spoke to one of the adviser, he told me it could be the pressure sensor. Sensor was only $18 dollar so I decided to order and replace it to see if the problem goes away.

Best advice I can give: I would limit the use of the car until you swap out the switch and go from there. If the light stays on get a pressure test done. The "sensor" is a simple switch that closes when pressure drops below a certain set point thereby triggering the idiot light.

Good luck....

I never got the light because I replaced it before ever turning on the car, but I did break my oil pressure sensor once while working on the car..given its placement (at least on the AWD G) I was surprised at how fragile and exposed it was... I basically I bumped it with a ratchet t and it broke off in its fitting...its basically made of thin brittle plastic...mind you it did last for over a decade in harsh condition up to until then so I can't say it didn't last....either way, I would imagine that it was about to snap off and would probably have given the same symptom you got now.

Hopefully thats all it its for you too, especially given the complete lack of other symptoms.

Not on a G, but my Grand Pix I used to have had a oil sensor randomly fail. I was driving along, got on the throttle for a sec, and all of a sudden the light popped. I threw the car into neutral and listened and there was no knocking or any bad noises so I babied it the rest of the 2 miles home. Inspected things, and only thing I came up with is the sensor failed. I replaced it and problem went away.

I noticed when I pulled the old one out that oil actually came out of the plug itself and after further research found that is how most of them failed.

When i was removing the old sensor.. The pieces in pictures above are from the oil filter bracket assembly which now has to be changed because oil is leaking from where yhe sensor is supposed to go.

Maybe you smacked the housing along with the sensor with the ratchet?

My car is 2WD and apparently there are no oil filter housing. Pressure switch goes to the lower block. I dont know what to do.

are you sure it goes to the block?..I would think it goes to the upper oil pan...

Either way you can get somone to weld the fitting back but if its the upper pan, you can replace the pan...probably get a used one pretty cheap from a junkyard/ebay...it may require some disassembly
