Drivers side cv axle replacement
Drivers side cv axle replacement
Hi everyone. The cv axle on the driver side of my car needs replacement. Boots torn and loud sound. I checked the axle and it looks like it just pops out once I free up some space and take off its spindle nut. I just need some advice on how to DIY this from anyone whos attempted this. If its truly way too difficult might just buy the part and go to a shop and have them put it in. Any advice helps. Thanks
I attempted this once, I got stuck on bolts that attach to transcase, had to get my car tower and shop finished the job.
On the other hand the passenger side is a cake walk compared to driver side.

I jsut did it a few months ago...its really isn't that bad don't bother with taking out the 6 bolts connecting the half shaft to the stub axles...better to undo the three 10mm bolts on the upper oil pan and pop the whole thing out...most used replacements come with them connected

The guys talking about 'bolts' are thinking of the rear axles on the RWD models. The rear axles are bolted in place.
I have no experience with the AWD front CV axles. We have a factory service manual on the forum. You should be able to find detailed instructions there.
I think the guys that are mentioning bolts don't realize there is a difference between a CV axle and a axle.

You are right I don't know the difference between a CV axle and a axle i use the terms interchangeably ...if there is some difference as applied to these cars I'd be happy to hear it (learning every day)....but, no I was talking about the bolts on the front axles and on the stub shaft (See the pics posted my self and Justin Bailey posted in the threads I linked) and I believe Sacchu was as well given his comments in the other thread I linked to... The front driver side axle is bolted to the stub shaft from the differential with six bolts, the stub shaft itself is bolted to the upper oil pan with three bolts. The stub shaft is a bit bit of a misnomer in this application because its actually quite long as It goes through the upper oil pan and into the differential on the other side closer to the passenger side and is almost as long if not longer than the actual axle. The passenger side axle is a traditional press fit with no bolts (there are some bolts on that side of the differential casing near the axle but they don't connect to the axles, they are on the casing)..the OP mentioned visually inspecting the axle and it appearing to pop off so I assumed he was talking about the fronts as the passenger side is pop off design and the bolts on the driver side are so far in its very hard to see them if you can at all with out some disassembly and visually theres no mistaking the rear axles for popoffs the bolts on the diff are very apparent from any angle..
OP: I don't know why yours would be any different from anyone elses..they have been using the same design on all the G cars from 07-14 and probably before and since...its even the same design on the R35 GTRs...see this video of it being done on a GTR
