Pulled in the driveway, went to shift into Park, and shifter moves, but its like whatever its supposed to be connected to, it isn't. The shifter just flaps back and forth from P to D, no detents, no change in what trans is actually doing. Shifter is in Park, but car is still in D. I can shut it off, shifter is in Park, but car just rolls away (I set the parking brake.)

I searched, but could not find any threads covering this.

Not sure if I should be dismantling the console, or climbing under the car.

Is this a known issue? How does the shifter control the trans? Is there a physical cable or linkage, or is it shift by wire?

 

OK, so it uses linkage, and mine fell off underneath the car. Looks like something in the pivot where shift assembly connects to trans linkage rusted through and fell off. Fortunately its a bolt on piece at the end of the linkage. Hopefully they sell it separately, else I'll be looking for decent used parts.

I will post photos and a diy when I get the parts.

​​​​Thx. Found them. Seem to all be 6 speed trans. Didn't see any auto's. But I could use some other parts, so helpful!

Discovered Infiniti does sell these pieces individually. Only like $20 for all the parts that fell off. Will just buy new.
