Still using Nissan Ester Oil?

Since the first oil change on my then new 08 coupe (with 75K miles now), I've used the Nissan ester oil for the VVEL tick. The first ester oil change was under warranty with a reset of the ECU. I've done every oil change myself (19-20 oil changes) since then with the ester oil. I've had very few reoccurrences of the VVEL tick with the ester oil.

I used to pay about $10/quart but now find that the price for a quart is $12-15 range. I've always used synthetic oil on all my previous cars and with the increasing price of the ester oil and before my odometer reading gets much higher I am considering a change to a synthetic oil. I'm of course concerned about the VVEL tick coming back.

I've seen some older threads with those who have switched to other oils after using the Nissan ester oil. Now that some time has passed, it would be great to hear from people who had the VVEL tick and switched from the Nissan ester oil to another oil. Has the tick come back? What brand of oil did you switch to? How many miles on the Nissan ester and on the new oil?

Thanks your responses.

Been running pennzoil ultra platinum from the 2nd oil change with no clicks, ticks or other unusual engine noise. ~$25 for a 5 qt jug from amazon or walmart, another $6-7 for an oil filter. Oil usually comes with a $10 rebate. Takes about an hour of time to do it.

For a little added protection, use the filter for a Nissan Titan. It's about 15% larger than the G filter and screws right on with no problem.

Got a part #? I buy the filters in bulk, usually 5 at a time on ebay from one of the nissan/infiniti dealers. At one oil change per year they've been lasting a long time.

I've been using Amsoil. For sure noticed that the ticking sound is much quieter. Not a dealer. I get it at Fleet Farm. Maybe it has ester in it I don't know.

I don't have a part number. I just looked it up in the catalog at the store.

Thanks. I just checked. I have about a dozen of the regular g37 filters. Guess it'll be a while before I order more.

Liquimoly 5w30 and the bigger filter (union sangyo). Have never heard any odd engine noises.

I got a couple of the bigger filters, since I pay to get the oil done, they sit on the shelf. I am tempted to get some Liquid Moly Ceratec. I bought some stuff from FCP euro back before buying my G and all they will give me is store credit. I can get some Liquid Moly stuff though.

Anyone try the Ceratec?
