I had my coupler break as many others have and when i tried fo get it out it broke in three pieces 2/3 fell into the lower coolent hose should i take lower hose off and try to retrieve them or will it be ok to leave them in there?

There is no try, only do or do not. Do get the bits out.

Don't - the bits clog up your coolant system which destroys your engine..I think the answer is clear.
