Car losing power

i was driving my car two days ago and went home after work, everything was fine. Got back in the car started it, put it in drive and it would barely move. I tried reverse and the same thing happened. I turned the car off and tried to start it again and it wouldn't start as if the battery was dying. The dealership told me to disconnect the battery for a while to erase the codes and try it again. that fixed the problem, temporarily because today while driving it it did the same thing when i was pulling from a stop sign. Could this possible be the alternator?

Use your multimeter across the battery terminals with the engine running and measure the voltage.

Use a battery hydrometer to test the battery cells
