On my second 6mt trans.....

Got my 08 g coupe 2 and a half years ago. 88k miles. Has 126k now. Since the first 6 days it's been nothing but trans probs. Slave cylinders master cylinders. Few clutch kits . And so on. Nightmare. And yes I can drive. Eventually the input shaft went and blew everything up. Got a trans with 30k miles on it 6 months ago. And the syncros are already going....have it under warranty...but I'm debating of getting rid of the car. Which i love. I love it so much. Full exhaust. Coils. Blacked out headlight housing. I just really can't think of a replacement but a newer G. Any thoughts on this ? What you would do maybe.

just because you are a veteran at driving a manual transmission doesn't mean the previous owner of the trans was. since you stated it is covered under warranty just drop another one in and hopefully you won't have any more problems down the road.

I love driving manuals and bought a 2007 g sedan with 6mt several years ago. I hated the manual but loved the car. The clutch was just way too heavy and the tranny was very notchy. When I came back to the G I broke down and got an auto this time on my coupe.

I meant, if the transmission had been driven for a while using a GL5 fluid it could have damaged the synchros to the point that it caused you issues. Just a guess.

That's very weird. The problem had to be the trans being faulty, to begin with. There are lots of guys pushing 1000+ whp out of the manual trans stock.

First 2 months I own the 2015 6mt coupe, the slave cylinder leaked crapload of fluid. I thought the engine was leaking oil.

Almost 2 years later No issues with the trans. But I have to admit Nissan makes horrible manual transmission.

Drive an s2k and it shifted smooth as butter. You don't even need to try. Engagement point is also perfect.

Whereas Nissan has very high engagement point and rough / notchy shifts.

i only get the notchy gears in the morning or when it first starts up but after the trans fully warms up it goes away and shifts nearly perfect. my g35 was the same. i just shift slower to avoid it until it warms up

I'm with Rollo on this. If you are racing the car then yeah you are gonna want the 6mt I get it. However, if this car is your DD you'd be much better of with an automatic. Sell your whip and get a newer G. Prices have dropped A LOT since the new body style came out. I just got a 2014 7at coupe as my DD and its buttery smooth.

Nothing to do with 6mt in general but just the crappy engineering from Nissan.

I daily drive manual transmission for a while and never really had an issue until I got the G35 and the G37.

The Honda manuals are smooth as butter. Even smoother than the Autos from Nissan.

I had an Q50 lease and it wasn't smooth at all. Most of the time, it was lost and didn't know what to do. Had to let go of the gas and step on it again to finally get it going again. That's why I went back to manual and picked up a 2015 Q60.
