I have been lurking around these forums for the last couple week. There's some great information here so I decided to join.

My pops has a G25 but the engine is smoking like crazy. The mechanic said it was valve seal, but replaced the seals without checking cylinder compression.

Unfortunately, he reinstalled the heads and then tested the car and it still smokes. I was wondering what would be necessary to change from the VQ25hvr to a VQ37hvr, because these engines seem to be more readily available.

And if not do you have any recommendations apart from an overhaul kit from Infiniti?

What color is the smoke? Valve seals smoke upon start up and closed throttle deceleration and tends towards light gray. Leaking coolant gaskets cause steam to come out the exhaust and will cause overheating. Bad ring(s) will cause dark smoke when accelerating.

We changed the valve seals, the head gasket and vacuum hose and the car is running like a champ again. Entire process cost $850.
