auto tranny flush - any shop can do it?

My 2011 G37 sedan (65K miles, auto tranny) is due for the tranny flush. The dealer wants over $300 for the flush/service, which seems a little high to me. Can any regular shop (like Goodyear, Jiffy Lube, etc.) do the flush, or is it different enough, or is the fluid unique enough that I should stick with the dealer?

Same question for the coolant flush service - dealer wanted like $200+ for that one as well!

Check with Nissan dealer might be cheaper, I would stay clear of Jiffy lube for everything.

What blnewt said. If Nissan dealerships are still expensive then perhaps you might want to buy your own fluid and bring it to a local shop and have them perform the service. You will need 6 quarts of Matic S which will run about $8-10 a pop and 1 hr labor rate at $150(?) which will net you around $210. I believe the norm for dealership coolant flush is around $120ish. But premium brands will usually charge a premium price although it's roughly the same work.

If possible you should invest in some tools and DIY as they are simple to do and there are many instructions that can be found on this forum.

Buy cheap, and you'll usually buy twice

Awesome - I do some of my maintenance, but never done the tranny service. I am definitely willing to do it - is there a DIY guide? Something with the procedure to follow/caveats/etc.?

Here's a good DIY, I did this a few months ago and the AT is working very well. Another bonus w/ this DIY is it involves removing the pan so you can clean the magnets and the buildup in the pan. This is essentially a 3x drain & fill so it takes about 4 gallons of ATF.
I used Valvoline Max Life as it's one of the very few commercial ATFs that are Matic-S compatible.

Outstanding - thanks much for sharing. I did a tranny fluid service about 10 years ago on a BMW, and from the pictures/descriptions, it is about the same level of effort. Definitely worth doing it myself. Thanks much for the link

Now, on the pictures, I could not see the fill/drain plugs too well. Will it be kind of obvious when I am down there looking at it?

Fill plug should be on passenger side and drain is at the bottom of course. The process is very much straightforward and since you have experience working on a car, this will be a breeze.

Actually the fill and the drain are both on the bottom, here's a pic of the inside of the clean pan.

You are correct. I was thinking about 6MT which the filler plug is to the side. 7AT will have be at the bottom.

P.267 will provide instructions.
