Built Motor vs. Nitrous Setup

I'm currently torn in my build efforts. I want a 12 second car that's reliable, steerable and can be daily driven in the summer. I'm not going to go TT or SC. Not going to do just cams. I'm thinking either go with a Nitrous setup 100 shot or an IPP Stage 1 built high compression 11.5:1 long block with JWT cams installed into ported heads.

Built Motor
The IPP Built High Comp long block is 11.5:1 compression ratio, I'd opt for the moly coated pistons and have them put the JWT Stage 1 Cams in. Without shipping that will run me $6,000.00 approx. Add shipping and install probably $2,500.00 more. Level 10 valve body upgrade $1,000.00. I'm going to re-tune and add a few other things no matter what so I'm not factoring those costs into anything. $9,500.00 I have a built motor fully bolted and tuned and a stouter tranny. I'm banking that this will be a significant power increase and a very reliable setup that will get me into the 12's easily.

Nitrous Express Wet Kit Setup
Still learning about how this all works and what I'll need. I figure I'll need the valve body upgrade, maybe have Level 10 rebuild my entire tranny and torque converter. Cost for this I'm assuming is going to be close to $3k for all the nitrous stuff, $1k for the valve body if thats all I'll need or $5k if I have Level 10 rebuild the whole tranny. Total. $4k ($8,000.00 if I have Level 10 built tranny installed).
With a Nitrous setup I feel confident I can reach low 12's. From my reading it seems safe as long as you prep your car properly.

Am I missing anything? Oil cooler, tranny coolers, water/meth kit? Has anyone had an IPP built motor installed? Nitrous experiences?

With nitrous, you'll get 12 secs. And you probably won't need a transmission upgrade. U could tune for a 125 shot. Bolt on 100 as is and be fine. With the nitrous kit, you'll have to factor in a bottle warmer, bottle jacket, switches, gauges, progressive controller and of course a tune. Have limited knowledge on water/meth injection but it's supposed to the temps internally which would allow to add additional timing and fuel to make more power.

You'll be somewhere around these numbers.

With the all motor setup, I'm all for cams, I wished there was an easier way to install. I'd like to see how much power would be made on a built high comp engine also. I also don't think you need a transmission upgrade with this setup either.

You'll be somewhere around these numbers. Check the comments for the dyno sheet in the fb link.

Oil and transmission coolers are must mods. Safety first. Add those to your build thread without question.

I'm thinking I will upgrade the valvebody anyways, also I just ordered Z! Urethane motor mounts and UR lightweight crank and alternator pulley set. I will get oil and tranny coolers next. Hmmm...one part of me wants to run a built motor with cams and the other wants to go nitrous.

The problem with nitrous is that the power gets addictive. You'll forever be filling bottles.

thats a problem I'm OK with. Is it hard to find a place to refill a bottle? What is the cost $7/lb? Should I get 1 step colder plugs? Should I tune for 100 shot?

Whr to find nitrous? You'll have to ask the local enthusiasts where supplies. Yes. One step colder plugs or oem GTR plugs and yes. Tune for 100. Look into getting this gauge.

I'm going back and forth on SC vs. Nitrous now and I'm going Nitrous. 125-150 shot. JV can tune me for it. I have all the cooling upgrades I can install, plus VB upgrade. I'm going to mirror Neverbonestock's setup. Snow Performance Stage 3 Meth system too. Shot NX a message to get a quote for everything I need. I'm thinking will do this and with the extra money I saved get my stereo jacked up or go carbon fiber interior and custom steering wheel, side sills and rear spats. Make my car a show stopper and power at the strip.

Why not go Boosted Performance single turbo? Would make more power than either. I haven't heard much about nitrous with the VQ37, although I know some have. Just seems to be more people running forced induction or build motors.

The reason I'm going with nitrous over FI is the absence of qualified installers in my area. I do know a few that have a lot of experience installing nitrous systems also have a few friends that have had nitrous setups before.

That stinks. I think bang for the buck Sasha's kit looks to be the best out there. If I could do everything over again, I think I would have gone single turbo.

That is rough. I will say this though, I would only trust the tune to someone who has done both nitrous and someone who is reputable among the VQ37 tuning community to do it. I know some VQ37 tuners who won't even touch tuning nitrous. Good luck on your power endeavors!

Visconti says no problems on tuning nitrous. I've had him tune my car twice now and I'm very happy with it. He tuned my tranny to better utilize the VB upgrade. I feel comfortable moving forward with nitrous. I just need to make sure I get everything I need.
