It’s really hard to get through to you guys. Sure, there’s a manual mode for AT’s. I use it myself quite often. But to have an AT car and NEVER using the automatic feature is, as Mr. Spock would say in Star Trek, illogical.

I see what you are saying. It's an illogical choice, but it's a choice nonetheless. For those who just couldn't find that manual G around them
i was thinking you had a manual btw, ha.
Cheers.

Actually, I’ve owned many MT cars, including my ’51 Pontiac, Porsche 914, Datsun 280ZX, and the car with which I learned to drive way back then, a ’53 Ford. But in the interest of having my wife drive my G37 (she never could master a manual tranny) and LA traffic, I now drive an AT. But I agree with all those who say a manual gives enhanced driving enjoyment.

Yeah I had a couple MT cars and really tried to get a MT G, but it wasn't in my cards this time. And though I loathed the auto-manual lag at the beginning, I forced myself to get used to the shift points and now I do enjoy it quite a bit.

I purchased an 08 AT coupe and love using DS. Especially on freeway on ramps, down shifting next to freeway walls in car pool to really hear my exhaust at high RPM's. But, once I see traffic up ahead and the fact I live in Los Angeles, switching to D is just so convenient.

I don't recall writing that I never use automatic mode. I did for four years. I still do so when the drivetrain is cold because auto mode shifts at lower rpm allowing a heavier load on the engine for quicker warm-up.

And I meant to write that only two of my previous eight vehicles were automatics.

I don't recall anyone else writing they drive exclusively in manual mode.

Well, you did say”:
Now, I manually shift 98% of the time.
So technically that 2% in automatic mode makes you correct, but to me it’s close enough.

YOUR ANALOGY MAKES NO SENSE LOL I am literally dumbfounded how you can make those comparisons. Its called HAVING OPTIONS !

I have a 7AT but before owned nothing but MT. After years of suffering thru stop & go traffic, my SO not able to drive my car because it was a MT, I decided to get a auto. It just so happened to have a "MANUAL" mode.

Now stop and go traffic isn't painful anymore on the ride home from work and my SO can take the car to get groceries instead of taking me along. Maybe sometimes if the traffic frees up and I want to feel nostalgic, I switch it to manual mode and manually shift the car myself. Not exactly like a true manual, but it'll suffice. It'll always be better at rev matching than I ever will be.

Point is, you have CHOICES. If some owners want to drive the car in manual mode all the time, its their prerogative !

Its not like he bought the automatic G and rides the public transportation / bike to work instead.
