Help Engine Cranking Weird
Engine Cranking Weird
i have absolutely no idea what is going this how the problem started
i was driving showing my friend what the car is like underboost, we just went around the block came to a stop and took off, i made to third gear and the car shut off no weird noise or jerks at all. come to a full stop try to start it and this started to happen anyideas maybe timing chain or sensor? engine has 54000 miles

My car sounded like that once last winter. I thought it was a low battery, called roadside assistance. The trucker operator said the battery was probably fine, suggested trying a few more cranks, then connected jump leads, and said try some more. In the end it just turned on after 10-15 tries. My best guess was that I had bad gas, or the throttle bodies had iced up (previous engine run was a <1 min to move the car on my driveway). It has been fine ever since.
so i pulled apart the intake plenum had a look at all the valves and they are all working and don't seem to be bent. i pulled out the spark plug and notice there wasn't any spark. tomorrow i will get a compression and leak down tester and see what happens
So after doing a compression test and getting 0 on all 6 cylinders i decided to take the crankcase cover off. i had to drop the oil pan to get to the last to bolts and i noticed shards and pieces of what looks like oil sprayers and bigger chunkier pieces. whatever broke is most likely the problem of why i am not having compression now to figure out where these pieces came from !

So finally i got some good news the compression issue is now fixed the timing was thrown off really bad intake valves are all good but i cant see the exhaust valves fingers crossed they are okay! now as for the what caused the timing jump i have two theory's i know for sure that the the tensioner had something to do with it [Marked with the red arrow]. Now if you look at by bank two with the [green arrow] that cardboard type gasket blew out. Now i am not to sure what that is can anyone chime in on what that exactly is? in the youtube video the number one spark plug was out

The oil gallery passes oil under tremendous pressure up to the cam sprockets to actuate the valve timing advance, as well as timing chain tension. When it leaks badly, you basically have little to no oil pressure at idle, and not nearly enough even while revving to properly operate the variable valve timing, let alone proper chain tension. If you did jump a tooth, I have no doubt this contributed to it.
The fact that you've been running the car with FI while your gasket was blown out is troubling to say the least. And the fact that you were actually boosting it in third gear to show (off?) a friend when it actually died makes me fear your motor could be toast. Of course, all that metal down there in the pan certainly adds a fairly loud testimony to that prospect as well.
Sorry man, but I think you might have bought it on this one.

Maybe, just maybe, if it shut down the instant everything broke, you didn't circulate any metal though the bearings. Fingers crossed for you man.

That is the infamous oil gallery gasket.
