Does 7AT lag issue affect model year 2013 as well?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to purchase a G37 in the coming weeks and have been trying to figure out just how big of an issue the transmission lag problem really is. Is it a deal breaker? Most people have said the dealer ECU/TCU flashes are just bandaids, and the problem can never be fully fixed. Is this still the consensus?
Do 2013+ cars still have this issue? I see that the last known MY to be affected was 2012, so I'm wondering if Infiniti has finally figured it out.
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to joining the group

It is my understanding that a 2011 7AT would have an identical transmission to a 2012 or 2013 with the exception of the software (firmware). An updated 2011 transmission should be identical, but perhaps someone will chime in with more info.
Getting a 2012 or 2013 will save you the trouble of determining if it is funky, and convincing the service department to test it.

AFAIK, the lag will exist up through 2014. I've driven the 2014 and 2015 Q50 with some miles on them and the lag still exists to me. I just added a post to the other 7AT transmission thread and stated this problem can be mitigated with a software tune.
My 2010 is about to roll over 60,000 miles and I'm almost positive the previous owner didn't change the trans, diff and transfer case fluid and I will be doing that after the new year. New fluids should help a little bit.

The 2nd as you describe is lag. The 7AT has lag, no way around it. Will it be a problem? for 99% no.

My 2013 shifts buttery smooth at low RPMs and shifts very quickly at high RPMs. Never any hunting, pausing, lag, or unexpectedness. Its 100% how an automatic transmission should be. Threads like this confuse me because I can't see a problem.
The only complaints I read are those where drivers use the gimmicky D-S manu-matic 'sport mode'. I'll agree there is lag when manually shifting this way, but I bought an automatic specifically because I don't want to row my own gears. When I do occasionally use that mode, its to downshift just to make some engine noise, like when exiting onto an off-ramp. And the response time is more than reasonable. I think some just love to complain about minor things. Over and over again.
I've driven 09/10/11 and 12 G37's and can't say I've even noticed anything unusual about their transmission.

I thought for the 7AT the fluids were "Lifetime" I understand it's always good to change out a lubricant even if a manufacture says lifetime as it does wear out over time and doesn't allow maximum lubrication on the moving parts. I know BMW and mercedes say their Trans fluid is Lifetime but that literally means until the transmission gives out..

The transmission lag on my 2013 G37x was annoying the &*(*# out of me when I first got it in 2013. Big lag when accelerating and slow to downshift.
I went into the dealer and complained about it, and they were able to update the software and it's been about 80% better. Now that 20% is causing me to debate keeping the car once my lease is over. Other than that I love the car.
