Forced induction without a kit?

Forced induction without a kit?
Hey there, i'm far from being ready to get serious about this but I am constantly playing around with the numbers it would take to get my G37 to make some serious power. I know with a lot of FI G37's the main issue is traction and i'm assuming that with mine being an X that I shouldn't have as much of an issue. I've read a little about the different kits available and i'm not really sure which direction I would want to go yet. My main question is, if you have done FI, how much would you say you had in the whole project? Also, has anyone went the route of doing FI, but buying it a little at a time instead of dropping $8-10K all at once? That would be the route I would prefer. Spending $500-600 here and there would be a lot easier for me to explain than taking one lump sum out of savings. So what do you think? Thanks in advance.

A quarter past stripped
There was a gentleman in this forum that started buying the supporting parts a little @ a time before pulling the trigger on the TT setup. It was actually a smart way of doing the build IMO. To get the most out of the FI kits out there you need the appropriate exhaust, beefed up transmission and rear differential, etc. Figure out which kit you want and contact the manufacturer for their recommendations on supporting parts. I'd also research the shop that you want to go to before hand. They can usually give you the best knowledge on parts to buy before the install. GL

8-10k is just the entry fee to get in the door. There are plenty of 5-600 here and there supporting costs to be incurred. Total cost will vary on your goals but for an estimate I would say 15k minimum possibly less if you can do a bulk of the work yourself. Costs from that minimum can go up very fast.

As stated already 15k is close , I had an X went Stillen SC was into it for 13+k when the motor quite , only 7500 miles on the kit also ,:/ you'd need at least 15+ with 8 or so laying around for if something happens to the motor .

Ya I have dropped much more then 15k in the car for my Stillen SC upgrade. You want to make sure that its not just a well priced kit, but the rest of the car can handle the power. I have the xS model and can tell you AWD can help and hinder all at the same time. You now can get transfercase problems if not careful.
