Help Shifting newbie
Shifting newbie
Hey guys I'm pretty new to my 2012 g37s coupe 6spd. And I hate the clutch, a lot of people on the newbie corner told me to change my clutch to RJM , was wondering would it help if I also put in the TWM short shifter and smaller weighted ****?
I come from a s2000 so it's an huge difference! Any input would be great! Thanks

A short shifter and weighted **** might be aesthetically pleasing but won't help a lot IMHO. The shifter is already pretty short throw and actually works okay. You will get used to it.
The clutch is a whole different thing IMHO, sudden engagement and too far off the floor. I was never going to get completely used to it. There are two options people are using. One of my co-workers uses the spring kit in his 370Z. He and a lot of others are satisfied with this inexpensive fix. I'm using the RJM pedal and I like it a lot better. A couple of hundred $ and a couple of hours of time. The RJM allows you to adjust the ratio of the clutch pedal and distance from the floor independently. Does it make it into a butter smooth Honda or BMW clutch? No, it's still not great. But it helps a lot.
BTW, be careful about skip-shifting into 5th and 6th. Weak synchros.

i highly recommend the RJM kit, i have it on my car and i love the smooth shifts. I learned on the OEM one and it was a complete crap! You went from a proper gear box S2000 to a G37 which is a complicated gearbox with almost no pedal feel or engagement.

I have an S2000 also, the difference between it and the G are much different. I found by wearing a driving shoe, with a thinner sole, helps me find the "sweet spot" on the clutch in the G. There's not another car that shifts like the S, it's perfect.
Anyone having problems when going from 1st to 2nd? I always thought it was just me shifting before hitting the sweet spot which is non existent. Instead it kind of rattles up the car and shifts hard. All other gears are fine. Also gets better after warmed up...
If you have issues with your stock clutch, i would suggest you get Jsolo's clutch spring, its like 20 bux and it is SO worth your 20!!! shipping comes within a few days and takes less than 30 minutes to install DIY, take off from first is smooth as ever, and 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is smooth as ever!!

I don't know what's more amazing, the fact that in 2009 making a good manual transmission isn't a no brainer, or that nissan felt what (according to everyone on the internet) was an awful shifting experience was acceptable for some of their highest volume vehicles
SON415, I have the TWM short shifter. I'm still using the OEM shift **** by choice. I love it and it made a huge difference even though the stock shifter is a short-throw. The TWM has a 33% throw reduction which is noticeable and the TWM is great for hard/fast shifts. One thing I loved about the TWM was that my stock shifter felt very loose, even when in gear I could move the **** around a lot and it felt like there was a lot of slack going from gear to gear. The TWM tightened everyting up and made shifting through gears feel nice and solid. The shifter comes with great instructions and I did the install myself. Only took about 3-4 hours (I've never messed with a MT shifter before this install) and required just basic tools.
I also went with the spring mod since it was the cheaper alternative and there was good feedback on the item. The spring mod and my weighted TK **** has made the car a lot more enjoyable to drive!
I know the RJM assembly is probably the best solution, but I'm content for now.
