Manual shift issue

I just got my car back from the dealer as they replaced the slave cylinder for the pedal issue, everything seemed fine but for some reason it wont shift into 5th or 6th gear without me having to force it in with quite a bit of effort, no grinding or nothing ( obvioiusly I have my foot on the clutch) but it seems like theres like something blocking it from going into these gears, I called the dealer back when I got home but they are now closed for the day so I gotta wait till tomorrow.. any Idea what is causing this? Its never been like this and been like butter putting it in to the gears

I've had the exact problem you are describing. Ask your dealer if they adjusted the (shifter) guide plate. This must be done any time the transmission is swapped and is recommended anytime the transmission is dropped.

You can see a picture of the (shifter) guide plate in the service manual on page TM-18. The adjustment procedure is described on page TM-21.

In the mean time, do not forcefully push it into gear. You may bend or break parts of the shift linkage. Potentially even damage your transmission.

I've adjusted this guide plate myself. It can be done without removing the shift **** and with simple hand tools. I think I spent a couple hours on my driveway tinkering with it and I was 100% successful (nothing broke, nothing got lost, all interior trim went back together smoothly, and most importantly it solved the problem. If you're up for a little DIY, then go for it, its a clean job, and is done entirely inside the car.

thanks dough.. I dont understand why they would have adjusted this due to the slave and master cylinder getting replaced.. I will drop off the car in the morning as im no expert mechanic..it deffinitly only in 5th and 6th.. if u feather it gently a little to the left it will go but thats messed up how u would have to do that instaed of just pushing it far right into 5th. its like it goes right to far by a 1/4 inch and wont go in.. then u gotta bring it back a touch left to get it to engage.. how do u adjust the plate anyways? screwdriver?

Happy to help!

To get to the slave cylinder, the transmission must be lowered. When the transmission is lowered and put back into place the relative positions of the shift linkage, transmission, and engine change (ever so slightly). This adjustment corrects for the change in positions and differences in components (i.e. transmission 1 is slightly different than transmission 2).

I actually also had the exact same issue after i got my CSC and Clutch replaced. And Dough is 100% correct. I actually researched what the issue could be before i took it back to the shop, and I remember it was something that i totally could have done myself, but i wanted the shop to do it since they screwed it up in the first place. Plus i figured the shot would fix it for free (which they did).
