Who uses their Paddle Shifters?

I know I will probably get chastised for this but I don't use my paddle shifters at all. It just feels so un-natural to me. Maybe because my last 2 cars were manuals with a "real" clutch. Paddle Shifters just seem like a gimmick to me. I mean. . . my Wife's 2010 MDX has paddle shifters. . . .why?

(Kind of started this conversation in another thread (https://www.myg37.com/forums/newbie-...7-vs-335i.html) and figure'd it deserved it's own thread)

I've used mine a couple of times. There is too much processor lag IMO. I took a video a while back of me driving some back roads using them and they were kind of loud, which was annoying because that was the only sound my camera really picked up.

I'd use them more if it didn't take a full second to shift gears.

It was the closest it got to a manual before I swapped to an MT. I loved the fact that I was selecting my gears and these tunnel downshifts with a catless FI exhaust setup made it very well worth it. The lag killed me though.

I do quite a bit. I'm trying to get into the habit. If I have to have my first automatic car, I might as well simulate a manual to some extent.

I definitely use them on the highway when slow people **** me off, blip blip down to 4th and see ya.. they work alright.

Hoping to get some relief from a tune potentially in the future.

I'm in the same boat, I find the paddles take too long to shift so I rarely ever use them. I prefer shifting in DS mode on the 7AT, seems to me that it has less lag than the paddles.

way too much lag, rather just use the shifter.

I use them here and there but the lag.... So disappointing.

Mostly for coming on and off the highway, not a lot.

They seem like just a decoration on the steering column to me. The acceleration with the 7 speed is plenty fast for me.

Been using mine more and more to control revs at initial startup and shift when my water bottle is in the way. Agree with Drive Clean,DS shifting seems better

I've messed with mine some since I got my G about a month ago. I'm trying to adjust to the lag too. Nothing sucks worse than getting on it and missing your shift by a split second. About 90% of my daily commute is interstate driving so unless I'm running errands or something I don't get much of a chance to use the paddles or ds mode.....

I'm using around town more often, keeping the revs higher than normal D
using 3rd and 4th gear around 40mph.
I got used to the lag, and is not so bad

I wish the gear changes at redline were as crisp as gear changes at 4k ~ 5k rpm

shifting at redline there is a sensation of gears / "clutch" slipping

I use mine when passing or when I need to merge aggressively. It more for convenience (reaching with finger vs moving arm to shifter) and so I can keep two hands on the wheel. I really only kick it down a gear or two while cruising on the highway.

Agree that there is way too much lag to use in low gears. WHen starting from a stop the RPMs build so quickly in 1st and even 2nd gear that pulling the paddle is a guess and I end up shifting too early (or bouncing off rev limiter). 7AT is way better than me guessing when to shift with the paddles.

A ground wire kit will help with the lag many have mentioned. But I like using mine, for me there is a little fun factor there! Lol! Definitely not like a MT but if you have to have a AT IMO the paddle shifter makes it similar to stick.
