Talking G37 vs. 335i

Aww you thought I was going to ask which is better..... silly people. I'm a recent convert from a 335i sedan to a G37 sedan. I'll provide some pro's and cons of the G37 vs the 335i in case people are looking to compare but really I am introducing myself, so hello. Car is great so far I just want to *fix* (please don't mention this again I don't want my thread locked) the navigation and get paddles eventually otherwise I'm set.

I went from an 07 335i with sport and premium to a 2013 G37 sedan with premium and nav. The reasoning is the 335i was owned from 34k to 108k miles and it was starting to cost money. So I traded it in and got a new RELIABLE car. If the 335i could stay trouble free I would still be in it but I got kids and I need to not have to worry about stuff failing. Something would happen every year at least.

Pro's of the 335i:
-I think it was a little faster to 60 but I hear we may catch up when going to 100.
-The car is basically an extension of your body, you feel everything and can drive confidently... thats the sport tune so I'm sure the G would be the same way. I got sick of this eventually.
-Mileage is better than the G37 but not by a lot.

Pro's of the G37
-Still way fast just a different type of acceleration because it is a bigger engine with no turbo.
-Looks way better, please don't argue, it's not subjective it looks better.
-The stereo on the BMW SUCKS. The G is better.
-One part of the G37 is undeniably FASTER than the 335i... the windows. The windows on the G can really go. From all ends of the power up band the G window just fly's. The BMW windows will go up... but way slower... may go off the track or just stop working, like the door locks at times. I'll never forget when I had to get out of my car and walk around to open the door for my wife and not because I'm nice, her lock just stopped working. So yeah the G37 is going to be way more reliable, the 335i had other problems as well. Again not up for debate. The German car quality sucks, much like in history there products can only do one thing at a time.

Wow ok that was my vent. Like I said if I could rely on the 335i I would have kept it.

So basically if all you want to do is race around I think a stock 335i sedan is better than a stock G37 sedan. If you want any balance whatsoever get a G. I am still getting used to the switch but I made the right choice.

Good to meet my new friends. We'll be talking.

I'll get a pic up. It's a white sedan which fits with my theme of family and work then fun lol.

Thanks for the welcomes. I've already learned a lot from here and can't wait to learn more.

Glad I avoided a locking mod

A modded g37 in my opinions looks really good compared to the 335, but performance wise, i'd take the 335. But I'm happy with my G !

Welcome to the forum! I debated a 335i when shopping for my G. The thing that bugged me about BMW was their interior. Once inside a BMW I felt like it looked and felt the same inside since 97. They just don't do enough on their interior IMO. Infiniti has one of the best interiors going! I love it!

lol love your assessment in the looks dept.

I have a 2011 G37 6MT sedan, my wife has a 2011 335i sedan with sport package. Her radio blows mine away (she has the logix 7 or whatever). It is way faster and feels much more planted, agile. The two big downsides for the BMW to me are 1) maintenance (thankfully all trouble has been covered under CPO warranty to date) and 2) rough *** ride (which was improved a lot by scrapping RFTs and going to all seasons).

I felt the same way before I bought my A4 back in 2004. My friend bought a '10 328 and it felt the same, not to mention it is small if you are a bigger guy.

Welcome to the forums, I too came from German cars. They definitiely need to be taken care of or they will betray you lol. The G is definitly far more reliable and costs less to maintain.

I also was looking at my G and a used 335i, but in the end I thought mostly about which car I would be in longer... and that was the Infiniti.

Yeah I think the problem is people judge the two cars just by 0-60. The 335 is faster but I don't think it's way faster, just feels that way cause of the ride.

All other contests I would give to the G thus far. I actually prefer this radio to the Logix on my old 335... weird. I'm including the interface too though. I like the sound in my G just as much.

I love the bluetooth on the G. The BMW just didn't seem to mesh right.

Really though the window speed on the G is just nuts compared to the 335. You wouldn't understand that unless you owned a 335. Atrocious electronics.

Still miss the 335 a little but I'm in a better place now lol.

We'll I'll just wait until a rasie/bonus comes my way and then it's off to buy paddle shifters. Going from paddle shifters to non paddle shifters is painful.

I know I will probably get chastised for this but I don't use my paddle shifters at all. It just feels so un-natural to me. Maybe because my last 2 cars were manuals with a "real" clutch. Paddle Shifters just seem like a gimmick to me. I mean. . . my Wife's 2010 MDX has paddle shifters. . . .why?

I agree. My wife and I have never used the paddle shifters in her 335.

It's more for circuit racing, when grabbing the shifter isn't an option.
For day to day driving no use for it.
Does a SUV need paddles,no.
Have paddles in evo, although it's a twin clutch so it actually works.
Unless I'm racing at track I don't use.
