6MT - Clutch Nightmares - 12,000 miles
So I am having clutch nightmares....
Short story:
Car has 12,000 miles bone stock
Car wasnt giving me any problems and clutch was still grabby. All the time I had the car for over a year I kicked the clutch maybe 3 or 4 times at 3-4K RPM
Driving for about 40 minutes on a highway normally... I stop and fuel up.
Up a slight hill on a ramp to a highway, with another passanger in the car and some stuff in the trunk, I take off from first gear by dumping the clutch at 2k RPM or so...and spin thru first...Shift into second, and thinking for a moment I still didn't hook blip the throttle/rev to try hook before flooring it again thru second.
I then realize Im in second gear, and clutch slipped ( what else could it be
) as I am just revving the motor while in second but nothing is happening.... I clutch in and there was a little bit of pressure at the very end of the clutch pedal travel and throw it into neutral.
Now, im assuming the clutch slipped for the first time and I burnt it while revving it twice or 3 times....
Now the car right after, WHAT FEELS LIKE TO ME, engagement point changed OR the clutch became super grabby. A day later yesterday and today the clutch is very smooth....Perfect shifting (which im assuming the clutch is a little burnt that's why the shifting is so super silky smooth.)
Now I can just roll off the clutch while in first without giving gas and the car wont stall and just start rolling normally with NO gas, where before I would have to SLOWLY let the clutch go.
I guess my question: how can I test if my clutch is on its way out?
I did:
rolling 20mph in 3rd gear, put into 5th and give gas - car did not slip, it tries to move and rpms DONT jump - PASS.
I tried doing the same punch in first (no launch) gear take to 7k and drop into second...hooked up perfectly no slip.
Anything else I can do? to test it or have I hit the inevitable and will need to replace the clutch? I have another year lease with this car AND I wanted to extend it too. I try to baby the car.
Not sure if this is related but ever since this happened ( two days ago ) the car doesn't feel as peppy. Maybe its ****ty fuel I fueled up with or maybe something that slipped clutch effected. Before car felt a little faster now its a bit slower...enough where I CAN tell the difference just barely. Is this something that my slipped clutch could have effected? NOTE: it doesn't slip at all right now.
I guess just looking for some sort of feedback/advice.
Thanks guys
Roman

Like Polar has said, try that technique. A bad clutch will always start to slip when you floor the gas in an upper gear... you'll notice the rpms will jump up, but the car won't be going anywhere.
Hey guys, did as suggested: go to 30 MPH and while rolling at 30 put into 6th gear and floored the gas. Clutch did NOT slip. The car started accelerating. I floored from 30mph in 6th until I got to 40 and figured it was enough.
I tried this 2 times, same result: Clutch did no slip.
I also tried flooring in 6th gear from 20mph and same result. Grabbed and started pulling and clutch didn't slip.

You'll be fine. Sounds like you slipped the clutch once and heated it up. When the clutch and flywheel get really hot it becomes grabby. Once it cools, it'll feel different, the "burnt" clutch material will wear away and in a couple days you'll be back to normal. Just a little extra wear imo but nothing to sweat. Don't do it again!!
Why do I know this? I've done this once with my Stage 2 Southbend clutch trying to hear my car in an underground
I felt like a dummy. Car drives great many thousand miles later.
