P0021 and P0524??

Hey guys,

Car is in limp mode pulling codes P0021 and P0524. Checked oil level and its fine.
I have a Takeda CAI. Just passed the 63k miles mark, and will most likely take it to dealer, but wanted to check here first to see if anyone has any insight into these codes and what I should expect from the dealership.

Can the CAI be the issue?

Thx!

For those that might be experiencing the same codes
Update: It ended up being that they needed to replace gaskets. All sensors were functioning properly. Car was in shop for about 3 days and was covered under power train warranty. (6 year/70k)

You can reset the MIL and drive normally for a while (a few hundred miles) until it triggers the code again.

Your problem is probably the oil pressure and or camshaft position sensors. If it's under warranty let them handle it. If not, it's not very expensive or difficult.

Oil pressure & timing code.

Probably an issue with the back cover gasket for the sprockets.

What's odd is that I am having the exact same issue on my wife's car. I got P0300 and P0524. Did my homework regarding possible causes and checked for/ruled out vacuum leak and bad spark plugs (changed them out since the car's at 77K) or coil packs. I finally let a shop take a crack at it and was assured it was the oil pressure sensor and/or cam position sensor (hence my post earlier in the thread). They changed out both and sent it back to me running well. A few hundred miles later the car went back into limp mode and showed P0524 again. Oil level is normal. Cleared it to be able to drive home. I am driving it until the code reappears so that I can tell the shop why I'm not paying them (proof the car is not fixed and they wasted my money buying sensors that aren't the problem). I checked this morning and it shows a pending P0300 but hasn't thrown the MIL or went into limp mode which is perfect so that they can see their repair didn't fix the problem.

What's a bit odd to me is that it had a small but discernible intermittent misfire at warm idle before (just a slight stumble every minute or two) before changing the sensors out. Did you notice this on yours? It's easy to miss it if you aren't paying attention to the car. Now it seems to be gone but the problem still isn't fixed. I'm debating taking this information back to the shop that attempted repair before and giving them another chance or just having the dealership do it. Yours was covered under warranty but do you know the number of labor hours by chance?

And BTW, thanks a ton for this thread. I wish we had many more of these helpful threads than another thousand "what coilovers/springs/wheels should I get?" or "how much HP will I get from intake/exhaust X?" threads.

This happened to me 4 days ago.
2009 G37S 26,000 miles.
Check engine light came on, RPM would not go above 2500, got code P0524.
Took to dealer, he said my Fram oil filter might cause the issue. So he charged me $55 for oil change. But he also replaced "switch assy - oil pres - 25240 - 4m40e" ($21) under warranty.
I will report back if the issue comes back.
Thanks.

The problem is back today. Yesterday my battery was dead so I had to jump it. Today my SES light is on and the car is in limp mode.

It's not your oil filter or any sensor. It's the gasket at the rear if the timing cover that's leaking. There's other threads about it as well. If you haven't exceeded 6 years in service the power train warranty should cover it. I hope so because it costs about $3K out of pocket.

Roger that. That is what I told the service guy a month ago but of course he did not listen.
I am still under 6 years powertrain warranty. His service manager told me some BS about the way I do my own oil change, etc ......Stupid....trying to blame me because I don't go to them for oil change.

Complete BS. The only way they could possibly have any issue whatsoever to deny a warranty claim on it is if they find the engine to be heavily sludged when they open it up. Mine was clean just like it came off the assembly line and ti still blew that crappy gasket out. The problem is the insufficient paper gasket in that location. It should have been made form a more robust material. The fact that it is on the replacement rear timing cover tells you that.
