Have you installed something recently?

Check your MAF sensors if they're on correctly.

Yes, the MAF sensors...check if they're loose or something.

When my car was broken into, one of my MAF sensors was disconnected. I didn't know and I drove the car a good 40 feet. It sputtered the whole time, almost stalling.

You can try that.... see if there's anything wrong with the sensors.

Other than that, I don't know what's wrong with it. Good luck.

If this occurs in Neutral, then I'd assume its your MAF sensors as well. Basically the engine is receiving a lot less air than being read. The smell could possibly be due to the very rich mix
