I think he was referring to torque at the wheels and not the crank since he's modded

 

I own an 08 G37 Sport but its the 5AT with paddle shifters. So there is definitely an automatic version. It is exactly the same as the 08 Sport, except its got the 5AT with paddles. No other difference. Sport seats/everything.

Has nav/rear cam, sport brakes, suspension, muffler, etc..

(Sigh) I know the only real way to test this would be to go out and drive one, but it is hard finding a 4 year old car with an owner willing to let a random person drive.

I have driven my sisters 2011 G37X many many times and it is such a rush the acceleration and torque, but it has that 7AT, much different than the 5AT which with more gears, more acceleration come out generally speaking.

I also LOVE on that car the torque that can be achieved in third, i really really cannot stand having to kick down (letting an Auto Kick Down) into a lower gear for more power.

But i really do love every now and then being pinned to my seat after a red light, or excellent passing power on the highway

I did research prior to buying the g and the sport should all have the manual option with paddle shifters. On the torque, low end is sluggish, but by the time you rip through second and third and the power band kicks in you forget about that. Good luck!

Yeah, I am driving the same thing 08 G37S with paddle shifters, and it most definitely is not a journey with upgrades.. this guy earlier didn't know what he was talking bout.

 

Actually you are the one that doesn't know what you're talking about. The other guy is correct when he said that a AT G37S is in fact a Journey with Sport package.

Neeto's right, the other guy knows exactly what he was talking about. It's either a sports 6MT or a journey with extra packages, having paddle shifters means you have the sports package, which in turn also includes the performance tire and wheels package with the 19inch rims...I have a 08 5AT with premium, sports, and nav packages

 

Way too much debate on whether it's a Sport or Journey w/Sport...who cares? If you have the S it has the SPORT features (Big Brakes, LSD, Sport Suspension etc.)

The 5AT always gets maligned but the difference between it and the 7AT are MINIMAL. I drove both back to back and preferred the 5AT but if you go for 7AT more power to you. The difference between the '08 and '09 for me was about $3k and lost NAV meaning I saved $3k (~10% of purchase price) and gained NAV package features so I was happy. To each their own.

 

Owned an '08 G37S w/ the 5AT, driven multiple G37s w/ the 7AT. The difference really is minimal. If you've got a great deal on the 5AT go for it (you can't get the seller to let you test drive it?).

Also, if you're going to worry about gas mileage you might want to consider getting a different car. The G is great at a lot of things, but fuel efficiency isn't one of them.

 

So your telling me that the G37S I have with everything the Sport has with one exception.

I want to highlight this Car and Driver article.... I cut out the best part should you not want to read it all. The Automatic tiptronic Tranny was an OPTION for the Sport Model. Its a Sport with one extra (more $$) option than your 6MT. Funny some of you say "its just a journey with a bunch of add ons"

Well an M3 is just a 330 with tons of add ons if you want to use that mentality.

Well 5AT, 7AT are almost the same. I drive both the 5AT and 7AT and to me it seemed like the 5AT was more responsive then the 7AT but the 7AT did slightly get better gas mileage.

 

You can squeeze decent enough mileage out of it if you want. I have '08 Journey, 5AT and took my wife and my daughter along with lugage from Maryland to Michigan and got almost 30mpg out of it average on the way there and back. Now I drove it very conservatively and a lot of cruise control at 5-8 mph over the seed limit but it can be done.
