What transmission is on the 2008 G37 Coupe Sport
thinking of buying a G37 60k miles, pretty cheap from what I see.
After reading many things, I realize that the G37 from 2008 with the 5AT is pretty sluggish, and just bad on gas mileage. Its 2012, I really do not want a 5speed.
My question is I thought all Sport models came with a 6MT, was the 2008 model made with a 6AT when equipped with the sports package?
thank you

I was in the same boat as you. I really REALLY did not want a 5AT. Ended up settling for it though and it really isn't as bad as you think. It's a great car, don't let something like a few people saying that the transmission is sluggish alter your decision on a great deal when you see one. I've come from a 98 honda accord and used to drive my moms 3 series and everything about the G is 100x better than both. The 5speed is really not as bad as it's made out to be.
Remember, a car is chosen as a whole, not by a single piece. For example, if a lamborghini had a sluggish transmission but I got it at a great price, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Are these numbers typical? I'm just use to driving a 2011 G37X and the 7AT is great and responsive besides the occasional... Uh what gear should i drop down into.
Does the 08 coupe provide that crazy pull that pins you back in your seat?
Thank you! And @jesse550 how cheap we're you able to get your car don't mind me asking..

Those numbers are not typical for 5AT. It's more like 5.5 and 14.0. And the car pulls nice but it doesn't have that slam you on the back of your seat pull because it lacks torque. What you feel is a gradual pull as the rpm's increase. But don't be fooled, you'll be breaking the speed limit before you realize it!

If I recall correctly, the 2008 G37 Coupe Sport would only be a 6MT since that's how it was advertised. The sport package was a requirement.
A 5AT did not require a sport package, but if you had one, then it was called a Journey w/ Sport Package. The 7AT came out in 2009. There was no 6AT. Hope this helps.

Here it is
3 models
Base 5at
Journey 5at
Sport 6mt
within the base and journey you can get packages (technology) (sport)
if your car has paddle shifters then its a base or journey with the sport package.
i have the 5at because i felt it was better performance than the 7at. obviously the gas mileage on the 7at is better.

I have the '08 5AT and love it. No issues with response with the BB ground kit. I test drove a '10 370z with the 7AT and liked it as well, but haven't regretted going with the 5AT.
One other plus is that I can at least change my tranny fluid a lot easier at home than the so called permanent sealed 7AT which basically needs to be done at a shop.

Haha I guess that feel is relative. It does have a nice pull but when compared to my previous car which was turbo AWD with 280ftlbs of torque at 3000 rpm's, the G doesn't slam you on the seat nearly as hard.

and if you have the stock tune your missing out on 5+hp when you launch

I dont know if i'm just ignorant and missing smtg or maybe my head hurts after coming out of a 5 hour long meeting, but isn't our car's torque around 270lb ?!?
