Starting the car

I have an 2009 G37S coupe. The past few days when I go to start the car the brake pedal is hard to press down. The car is starting fine, just not sure why the brake pedal won't go down. Anyone experience this?

If someone pumps the brakes after the car is shut off your pedal will become hard. Is it still hard after the car is started up?

I'm the only one who drives the car and I don't pump the brake. It only happens when I go to start the car. When driving, the brakes are fine and it's not hard to press down.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as the pressure relieves itself after the car is started you're fine!

If it is a change from normal and not something you just noticed then I would just take it into the dealer as it would seem to still be under warranty so it will not be a charge and you will at least have peace of mind... I would not feel at ease if there were a sudden change on my car and it involved my brakes...

This is normal on ANY car with power brakes. The brakes get assist from vacuum, and until the car is running you WILL feel a very firm pedal.

I think you have just 'noticed' it, and it's been this way all along.

Now there may be a vaccuum reserve left in the chamber and if it was 'used up' upon shutdown, hence the new awareness.

Thanks guys! The pedal was fine yesterday afternoon leaving work and it was good this morning too. I'm gonna keep an eye on it and if it does happen again i'll probably take it to the dealer just to make sure everything is good since its still under warranty.

This is totally normal. When your car is not ON, the brake pedal is firm. When you go start it, you don't need to squeeze it that far, anyway, because for the "Start" button to activate, it only takes a slight press on the pedal. This is just something you've not noticed before that's been there all along. Again, it's completely normal.
