Launch Control

I just watched the latest episode of Top Gear where Stig drove the new GT-R to the second fastest position on their track and the boys then briefly talked about its powerful launch control setup which immediately raised my curiosity level. Such heredity being presented in its distant cousin G a mere possibility?

I would imagine it is a ways off in the G. You typically see it with dual clutch transmissions (like the GT-R, M3, S4, etc.). You can add a form of it with an aftermarket traction control unit from Race Logic. GTM offers this in a plug-and-play package for the G (albeit, and expensive one).

No, as stated above you normally see it in SMG/DSG equipped cars. Plus the G and GT-R have completely different drivetrains.

hm, all the g35 sedans '07-'08 (5AT) can launch at 2500rpm with the both pedals pushed! really good feature for AWD guys - smokes all the g37s up to the 60mph

as I know, g37 (7AT) can't do it...

What are you smoking? That's not launch control, any car can do that...

OK I tried it with my 7AT. What's supposed to happen? The engine revved up and then when I released the brake the car accelerated.

It's really bad for the drivetrain and is no way, shape, or form launch control but it'll get the car quickly off the line.

OEM launch control is more than just holding the engine RPMs at a certain level. It also incorporates the traction control system so it get the maximum grip without crazy amounts of wheel spin.

i SAW THAT TOO! that thing HAULS!!! I seriously want one later down the line. no idea about launch control, for 7at (i'm assuming).

edit: i know if you get orisis, you can use the valet map as a launch control; you'd be launching at 4k though. something about switching between the valet and power map...holding something, etc etc. dunno...but it's there, as a possibility?
