Rattling / Grinding Sound? Pilot Bearing?
Rattling / Grinding Sound? Pilot Bearing?
For the past year, my 37 coupe has developed a rattling (almost grinding) sound when i take a turn. The sound is coming from the driver side of the engine and seems rotational. Only happens when I am in gear. More specifically, only seems to only happen when I am at a low RPM in a lower gear and usually only when I'm taking a right hand turn.
My wife's 35 had a very similar sound and it turned out to be her pilot bearing. Just wondering if any of you have had a similar issue?

Hi, I've just started to hear some sort of grinding noise too. I could hear a grinding/rattling noise only when I'm pressing the accelerator. I first thought it was coming from brakes, but it definitely only sounds when I'm accelerating the car.
Did you find a solution for this? My car is barely over 10K miles and don't know exactly what to tell the dealer when I bring it in.

Yes, I figured it out. It was my Stillen Gen 3 intakes clanking against the radiator support area. They were pretty banged up by the time I found the issue. I adjusted them as best as possible, then cut a small square of rubber tool box drawer liner and siliconed it to the area they were clanking to.
No more sound whatsoever.

I guess mine is different issue. Mine only grinds when I'm accelerating. My problem is very very similar to what's described in below link. And since Infiniti is same as Nissan, I'm assuming it could be the exhaust bracket issue...

Are you sure it's from the front and not the rear? If rear, I would think it might be the clutches in the differential binding up. If the front, and during turns, sounds like something is loose in the suspension. Worn bearing at the top of the strut, or something else.
Years back, when I had new front struts installed in the camaro, one of the spacers or bushings up top was put in backwards. I'd hear/feel a click during turns.
