I don't have your issues either Almatti. And I've driven nothing but manual gearboxes since I got my license in 1980 so you would think I would find more faults with this gearbox.

In fact Since 1980 I have only driven a total of 4 years as my daily driver being an auto. 2 year of my current G37, 1 year of my G35xS, and 1 year of a 1976 Buick Skylark.

Also if another TSB is released i'm still not going to do it, unless it fixes my only annoyance of cruising in top gear while driving through 35-45 MPH's back roads.

I'm surprised these threads on the 7at don't get closed when someone keeps on making a new one about the same complaints over and over and over and over again. There is already thread on these issues. Why not do a simple search and post them in the appropriate thread already made

Seems kind of redudant if there is already many topics discussing this

Nah, the vast majority of people are happy with it. It's just that when you have a small group of people complaining within a small community (the fourms) it seems worse than it is.

This is the reason I have a 2011 G after two Subie Legacy GTs. Subaru stopped putting an AT in the turbo Legacy, and my 57 year old hips and knees won't handle a clutch in stop-go rush hour traffic. Subaru's loss is my distinct gain. This car is a blast, quirky 7AT and all.

I think we need a new sub-forum just for 7AT gripes, though.

Quirky is a good term for how the transmission is. I have started to notice some of the problems. I have 1500 miles. My issues seem related to when the transmission is cold. After I drive 5 minutes or so it gets back to non-quirky mode.

Once you get used to the 7at, it's not too difficult to avoid a lot of the little quirks. I've gotten really good with knowing just how much gas to go get it to downshift 1 gear, 2 gears, etc. and to know how much brake will cause engine braking to kick in.

Also, I haven't done any reprograms or tsb's cause I don't want to have potentially negative (IMO) effects.

You, along with many enthusiasts here, may not care about saving gas. but that is a small percentage of the general public who drives Infinitis. And the mass population does care about gas mileage. It may not be much (2mpg more), but, along with the environmental impact, it is a marketing point for the manufacturer. I'm not sure where you are from, but when gas prices in S. Cal are hovering around $4.30/gallon (and that's gone down from a month ago) now for premium, gas mileage is on a lot of people's mind.

It's also quieter on the highway with the 7AT and lower RPMs at highway speed.

It's also about having to keep up w/ the competition, many lux brands now have 8 speed slushies so a 5 AT would seem antiquated by comparison. If I could get my 5AT back from my 07 and mate it to my 09 3.7 liter I'm sure I'd be very happy. I don't even mind the 7AT that much (no reflash either) but I LOVED how the 5AT was always in the right power point at all times. I do like getting 29-30mpg hwy though Seems like the city mpgs is very close to the 5AT however.

I have to agree with you John, my 09 G37sX with 7 spd. has been very enjoyable to drive and has shifted without incident. As you said, you are more likely to hear from people unhappy with the operation of the trans then those who are satisfied with it. Just the way it is.

paaah screw the extra gears! Infiniti should've kept the 5AT since this is a sport car!.

SL65 Black is 5AT compare to other Benz classes.
reviews bashed the idea of having so many gears in sports cars (ex. IS-F top gear review)

i wouldn't complain if the shifting speed was fast like other cars (200ms only!>>GTR) but unfortunately, shifting speed in the G is really slow to put 7AT.

Coming from a 5speed auto(06 Maxima) it took me awhile to get used to the transmission. It felt like the car was always switching gears. But after a year and 18,650+ miles of driving the G, I love this transmission. Once you get to know its quirks you learn to work around them.
