Do I need a tune? Gen 3
Hey guys I have a stillen Gen 3 and I ran by a performance shop the other day and they told me with all Gen 3's i need a tune because im running lean (more air then gas). The person said I am close to detonating my engine. I am very worried and need help. Do i need a tune? I dont want to spend alot of money if a tune is not needed. I heard Gen 3's run low 14's which is scary im not sure thoigh help plzzzz. I have had this intake on for awhile. Should i be worried? Also will a tune enhance my performance with the intake??? newb questions thanks member!!!
Op wait until you have some more mods to tune, otherwise you'll have to pay for another tune when you get them
Sounds like someone was trying to drum up some business.
Hispeed is right, but it's all relative. The car (actually most any new car) runs pretty rich. Leaning it out a little isn't always a bad thing, just be sure to use premium. They run them rich in case you end up with a tank of regular. Whoever tunes the car will probably tune out any rich conditions anyway so regular would still be a bad idea.

If you want real performance take the filter off or out of the intake.
Last time I checked the engine management system is tuned to pull in a specific amount of air for that RPM and fuel amount.
Intakes and exhausts DO NOT EFFECT AIR FUEL RATIO.
A more free flowing intake/exhaust means the engine does not have to work as hard to pull in the required air.

The ECU does manage AFR but it's limited to how much trimming it can do. You can see a clear difference in AFR with a Gen 3 intake install... that's why you have the gains without a tune. Take a look at the pre-post Stillen G3 install AFR readings here. https://www.myg37.com/forums/3071891-post1.html
^^^ you are so wrong...research before you post wrong information..its a fact you run lean when you bolt on intakes and exhast!! in fact ill prove it to you friday when i do a post tune with my stillen intakes and ark exhaust..

Josh has repeatedly told us that the Gen 3 does not lean the engine out. Especially to the point of "detonating the engine". Total BS. I wouldn't let that guy ever touch my car. Ever.
