Just admit you were wrong and move on with your life. Obviously gas pedal input is what controls how your engine responds.

Did you actually read it? Even on the illustrations you can see how the throttle bodies are 100% open regardless of throttle pedal position. If the VVEL fails, the cams go to a default setting and the pedal will now open and close the throttle bodies like a traditional engine. The throttle bodies on the VHR engine are there as a fail-safe.
