A) Have not encountered the gas pedal being ignored (after coasting, cornering, or otherwise). The few times I've tested this, I get some instant response in RPM's. Sometimes there is a shift shortly after hitting the gas hard when coming from a coast, but before the shift there is some acceleration due to the increase in RPM's at the higher gear.

Prior to the update, the gas pedal would have no effect on anything for 1-2 seconds.

Sometimes the delay before the downshift is a bit later than I would like (but the RPM's still go up in the higher gear). I think this is just because it's an AT vs. MT. I don't think it can get any better without going to paddle shifters or MT. It's still pretty damn good though.

B) Coasting to a stop - prior to the update, there would be a notable 'clunk' downshift near the end. With the update, coasting to a stop is incredibly smooth.

C) Coasting to a near stop and then accelerating - No lag when pressing the gas. Car starts to accelerate almost instantly.

D) Cornering and applying gas part way through turn - prior to the update, if gas is applied half way through turn it was a coin-toss whether the car would ignore the gas pedal or not. The few times I've tried since the update, the gas pedal gives an immediate RPM response and depending on speed, potential downshift. The first few times I did this I was pleasantly surprised by the response. In fact, the force out of the turn was so great that I managed to drift a couple of times and the stabilization control kicked in. Note that I have 245/50/17 tires (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S) for improve traction compared to the OEM Goodyear RS-A tires).

I was never able to do this before the update - in most cases the lag just caused me to be super cautious since I had effectively lost one locus of control during the turn (before the update).

E) Acceleration from stop - The shifting seems to be much smoother. I think that the shift points have been slightly modified for a much better acceleration experience. WOT acceleration feels like the car has more torque at the low end. Also, easing off the gas during WOT acceleration, and then continuing with WOT is much smoother.

Still very happy with the update. Will update the thread more after continued driving. On a side note - prior to the update, I did notice that the blatant gas pedal being ignored lag 'seemed' to be worse as the outside temperature was colder. The last day (with the update) was relatively warm. Today is a somewhat cold day, and the lag is still gone. So FWIW, another positive observation for the update.

Look at my past posts, I have been very negative on this 7AT. I am NOT a fanboy of the 7AT, and have never defended its crappy behavior in the past - this is my own observation now after hating this car and almost putting a deposit on a bmw to trade this in, just a week before the reprogram!

So, I have to respectfully disagree, from my own observations anyway... After plenty of driving I feel that my 11 now drives just like the 12 I drove right before getting the reprogram. This is NOT an awesome automatic like the one in the new bmw I testdrove a couple times, however it does a very nice job now, and it responds when I want it to.

I drive both very aggressively at times and very calmly and it is doing what I expect from an automatic when I compare it to my other cars and when I consider that the new normal for autos is to emphasize fuel mileage (which this car does quite well considering its power). I no longer experience the frustration with it that I did before the reprogram.

For what its worth, my TECHNICIAN said the only difference over the years is the software in the control module. The tech has been very honest. Read my past posts. My tech openly admitted that the throttle response/lag has been a problem they are aware of and he said that it "is much worse on the sedans". So I believe this particular technician. Techs in my experience, do not follow the cover-your-*** routine like all other people at infiniti are trained to.

I just dropped off my 2010 yesterday morning for oil change and the reflash. Picked up a 2012 loaner. After more than 80 miles driving with the 2012, it responses to the throttle input at the 0-40mph range so much better than my 2010 before the update.

Then I picked up my car this morning, just did a comparison on how the gears will shift for different speeds and throttle inputs, the gear shifting points on my 2010 at different inputs after the reflash are exactly the same as the 2012. I am totally agreed with Mikeb that my 2010's transmission behaves just like the 2012 and with all the positive feedbacks in Dus1101's detailed write up. Good job!

The only difference that I can see is that the 2012 has a firmer steering and solid handling feel, and it feels much more grips when cornering (the loaner only has 3k miles). I think this is due to the tire treads on my 2010 are wearing out (my 2010 has stock tires, BridgeStone potenza 050a with 20k miles). Do you guys think so?

I haven't read through this whole thread yet, so I am not sure if this has been answered, but is there a quick way to determine if this TSB has been applied to my vehicle yet or not? I bought my 2010 G37xS used back in October and never asked the previous owner if this was done. I have noticed that on occasion the downshift can be a little more rough than it should be, I think I have only noticed it going from 2nd to 1st.

Also, are TSB's typically considered similar to Recall's where they are done "free"? Or does the dealer typically charge something? can a Nissan dealer perform these (I don't have an Inifiniti Dealer near me)?

@xceebeex:

If you have a '10, then you definitely do not have the new update, which is ITB12-027. This update is great, and really improves the transmission a lot. It just became available a couple weeks ago.

The update is free while you are still under the new-car warranty. It might even extend as far as the powertrain warranty which is longer. There's no way for the owner of the car to see if it was done already.

This is not a "recall", so after the warranty is up, they are not required to do it for free.

Just tell your dealer you observed some hard and unusual downshifts when coasting or coming to a stop and they will do the update.

Thanks for the info! Will a Nissan dealer be able to perform this or does it have to go to an Infiniti dealer? I think the closest Infiniti dealer to me is about an hour away.

Is this something that they would do right away or do they have to spend time "diagnosing" it? There is a dealer in the Albany, NY area where we go back to quite often to visit family but that is only for a couple days so I couldn't leave the car there for extended periods of time.

Thanks!

Only the infiniti dealer can do it. I drove over an hour each way to the dealer. It is WELL worth it!!! It took them 2 hours to do the update. I have a good relationship with this dealer so they gave me a loaner car for the afternoon. If you need the loaner, just make an appointment a few days in advance and let them know you need it and you can usually get a loaner. It will depend on the dealer and if you are a past customer of theirs. They also washed the car for free. Overall a great experience.

So the newest ecm/tcm update will work on the 09s? Or another update just became available? This is potentially good news for those guys.

How much did they charge you for a fluid change and what's your current mileage?

There are so many darn Pages so I am not sure anyone will respond, but it appears My 2009 G37 Sedan's VIN does NOT fall in the VIN's shown in the service Bulliten?

Am I correct? I Just got it 2 weeks ago and LOVE it! I have a 600 HP 2001 Corvette that I heavily Modded over the last 12 years. THIS CAR is a BLAST! I wish there were a few easy mods that gave it more HP/TQ. Seems most of the mods barely work and I'm a banker so I can't get a supercharger.

OK, back on track. Here is my VIN. Car was Manufactured on 06/03/2009.

My VIN #: JNKCV61E19M306267

I HAVE Noticed the Hard downshifts, but only drove the car a week, sometimes I Liked it downshifting, kept things snappy on the throttle, BUT, I am not sure if mine is already update and thats just how these cars are programmed. Infiniti's are SUPPOSED to be Fun to Drive and Snappy Performing Cars.

I used the word, "Snappy" twice now. LOL

Thanks Guys!

Is there a site online where you can enter you VIN to see if your car qualifies?

I called two different dealerships asking if my car was eligible for this TSB and they both transferred my call to a service tech. Got voicemail both times. I left a message wanting to know if i can get the 7sp reprogram. TSB.

Nobody returned my call

The 09s still aren't included in the current TSB update according to this site, not sure how CodeG got his 09 covered and it hasn't been confirmed that it was the newest reflash TSB. Just enter your Model then year & leave the last two boxes blank, it'll show you what TSBs are available for your 09, the list starts w/ the most current TSB (and the good one isn't there , but hopefully soon )

I hope Infiniti figures out a way to update the 2009 G's. It has me wondering why they haven't done it already.

But on a positive note, the update is still working great for me after 865 miles. I tried driving in DS mode for an extended period of time and I've found that the D mode is more fun to drive than DS. I almost have no use for DS mode. In D I can shift using the paddle shifters whenever I need more power or switch to M and do all the shifting myself. I did notice that shifting down to 5th or 4th does not provide as much engine braking as it used to with the previous update. I've also noticed an improved engine sound and exhaust note. Try accelerating near a long retaining wall and listen to the VQ music.

The only negative to all the updates so far has been the lack of an aggressive shift logic for DS mode. I wish DS would sacrifice MPG and keep the transmission between 1st to 5th gear and hold a lower gear longer. Also wouldn't mind more rev matching on downshifts and more engine braking. Seems like all the improvements to D has hurt the DS mode. Anybody else feel this why or am I just crazy? Maybe I'm just paying too much attention to the transmission these days.

Also would like to report that I still occassionally get a little lag and that rubberband like throttle. But the positives definitely out weigh the negatives! Get the update if you haven't done so already. Hang in there 2009 owners I'm sure you'll be next, but never stop asking Infiniti for answers.

I was afraid of that. I hate to call a dealer that I have never been to and basically ask them to perform the TSB. Ideally I would like to just tell them the symptoms that I am seeing and let them perform it on their own, but I don't want to get in to a situation where I drive out there and get nothing done. I guess I will try and see if I can get something set up at some point.

Thanks for the input!
