G37 7speed transmission reprogram
Reassurance !
I hear ya. That's comfort to my ears. Was trying to determine if the tranny quirks were a common/universal one and, if not, how widespread the complaints have been. I see from this thread that there are similar complaints cropping up with the 7AT tranny in the M model as well. Thks for the input. Glad to hear someone with a 2009 had had no issues.
Im driving a 2009 or 2010 loaner right now (didnt check the VIN), but my regular car is a 2011 sedan.
Im thinking that my regular car may already have the flash installed, but Im not 100% positive.
The loaner experiences a few things that I dont like, like lurching during manual shifts, that my 2011 did not.
Im starting to wonder if Infiniti had installed the TCM/ECU flash from the factory starting at a certain time period.......it might explain why the IPL is not included in the TSB, because they are so new they were built fairly recently. As far as I can tell, my 2011 was built 2 or 3 weeks before the first IPL to show up at my dealer, so I suppose its very possible Infiniti picked a date to start adding the flash and my car *may* have ended up with it from the factory.
FWIW my 2011 was built around the first week of November....something to think about if you are out looking for a car, check the build date (I think Nissan only shows month/year), it should be on a sticker inside one of the front door jambs.

Just an FYI for you guys with the Hypertech. After the TCU update, you can't re-install the tune. Hypertech will have to issue an update. I'll try to give them a call tomorrow to give them a head's up.
Re-flash opinion
I had the ECU/TCM reflash performed on my 2009 x yesterday for the same reasons as others... I was advised when I picked up the car that the transmission is adaptive, and would feel very different after the flash than it did when i brought it in with 19k miles on it. I'm willing to give it some time/miles to adapt, but so far I am not happy with it. Throttle response is gone. Car always wants to be in 7th gear I *almost* have to floor it to get it to downshift. In DS, except for occasional rev-matched downshifts, I cannot tell the difference from D. It sucks. DS does not hold onto 3rd gear like it used to.It upshifts very quickly trying to get to 7th.
Under normal driving sonditions, shifting is markedly smoother and the flare seems to be gone.
From a sporty and responsive perspective, I almost wish I had not re-flashed it. Hopefully some time/miles will change my opinion.

I only have 110 miles on my 2011 G37x, and I'm going in next Monday to meet with the General Manager to see if I can return it.
This transmission is awful. I didn't notice it on the test drive, because I was going 50-60MPH and always had it gunned.
When I did some city driving, stopping at lights etc, is when I began to realize it's flaws.
Like many others on this post, I've already had a close call taking a left turn across traffic because the transmission hesitated.
If they won't take the car back, I am going to be sure he knows that every time I'm in there for service, I'm going to make it a point to let others in the waiting area know how awful my experience has been. I'll even make it a point to browse the parking lot, and warn others before they purchase the car.

To each is own... My car initially had the tranny quirks but after 11xxx miles they've pretty mch ironed themselves out. Never had the tranny reflashed because i feel its just the nature of the transmission. We will see how it holds up long term though. My 06Maxima's transmission was horrible. This Transmission just takes a little getting used to. My transmission stillhas lag but not as bad as wheni first bought it and on when in D.
Wil1liam - if you expect your car to GO as soon as you hit the gas, at ALL times (like most of us do!), then you will be sorely disappointed in the G37.
Do you know how people speak of being "connected" to their car? Well I never felt as DISconnected from a car as I did the other day, when I was at a green light waiting to turn left, and hit the gas to go, only to find that the car DIDN'T go, and I almost got hit.
All that said, I've never owned an Audi, but I can tell you this much: Unless it was a manual transmission, I would never buy another G37 (I actually leased mine - it's a 2011 G37x sedan). Infiniti did not get this 7 speed automatic transmission right. It has a looooong way to go.
It's like a beautiful chain, but with this one weak link - the automatic transmission. Some would say, that's the most important link of all!
Good luck!

When I reported hesitation issues with my G25 in October last year, Infiniti actually had some engineers from Japan ride around with me monitoring the automobile. I was able to duplicate the hesitation several times, and they were making notes and taking readings on the car. They also left a monitor in my car for about three weeks to capture more readings.
The hesitation that I experience is when I am at a steady speed and the rpms have dropped to 1500 or less. When I try to accelerate, the car does not respond, and you can actually feel it bogging down because it's in too high of a gear to accelerate. It just keeps trying to accelerate in that higher gear, going nowhere fast. I have to step on the gas pedal more and finally it shifts down two gears (instead of one) and accelerates a lot faster than you might have wanted.
This hesitation is dangerous, because (A) you might need to accelerate right away, or (B) once it does shift and start accelerating you end up going a lot faster than you might have wanted.
I have also experienced the rpm spikes, the low gear torque converter clunk, and unexpected slight acceleration when coasting to a stop after the transmission downshifts to a lower gear.
Hopefully, my car is on the "qualified list" for the reprogramming, and hopefully the reprogramming resolves the issues. As it is right now, this is the only car I have ever bought that I have regretted and wished I had bought another car instead.

This saga continues.... I am trying to "swap" my car - 2010 G37X - for a CPO 2008 M35X. Not too hopeful that a deal can made w/o some significant cost. I lease my car.
g25dragon: This is the first post I believe involving a G25. Does your car have the 7 speed AT? If so, your description of the "bogging down" at about 1500RPMs is precisely what happens to me. I've made many posts about it on this thread. Curiously, some people do NOT report this happening????? I call it hesitation/lag - you and others have called it bogging down. Whatever you call it: it has ruined this car !!! I had the reflash done, some aspects of the drive-ability are better, but the "bogging down" is still in D Mode and DS mode.

sniper27: I'd say DO IT !! After about 800 miles or so, similar to the Pre-Reflash, the cars seems to drive better EXCEPT for that hesitation and a very abrupt downshift (I think it's 4 > 3 in DS mode when braking at highway speeds). Both of those conditions existed before and still present after the Reflash. I will say, that The Tranny does upshift more smoothly and after a good warm up will downshift 2 >1 better causing less Jerkiness when coming to a stop. You know, I was surfing the G35Driver forum (I had a 2007 G35X) and stumbled upon a members link to a a Utube review of the 2010 G37Xs by a untarnished reviewer (forgot his name). A very practical review that took the car thru its paces: again as so many other reviewers have presented - the G37 (and he reviewed the G25 too) it's the best overall personal Sports sedan on the market for the $$$$[better than the 335ix, Audi A4, Caddy CTS, Acura TSX). BUT no mention about the 7 AT (it was in both vehicles reviewed) performance at these slower speeds, and the hesitation..... Puzzling?? AS you read on this thread, some posts entered seem to shrug their shoulders about what the majority are talking about, Puzzling too??? Are they immune or ignorant or perhaps, ignorance is bliss, in any event, I continue to compare to my 07 G35X and regret not buying my leased vehicle all the time..... Newer is NOT always Better...
The hesitation as g25dragon describes it still sounds just like a torque converter lock up issue. The only real time the car is probably at a steady speed 1500 RPM or below is in some sort of overdrive, the hesitation before it downshifts is the torque converter not unlocking quickly enough. Frankly surprised that hesitation would still exist, because its probably a pretty easy s/w fix, unless Nissan/Infiniti is trying to take baby steps fixing the tranny, making sure one fix doesnt break something else before maybe releasing another fix.
Im still morbidly curious if my car came with the flash from the factory. Like you said, ignorance is bliss.....I never felt the 5AT so the 7AT probably seems perfectly fine to me! *Anything* is better than the 4 spd auto in my 2001 i30
7 gears should does make things more complicated!
