G37 7speed transmission reprogram
sniper27: Isn't America a great place. we get to make Executive decisions about so many things!! Lunch choices, what type of clothes to buy, what kind of cars to buy, and now what kind of Menu of Automated Digital enhancements we can make to our cars.... Man, in the "old days" all you could do was adjust the Timing on the Ignition, change some spark Plugs & Ignition wires, exhaust systems & manifolds [not that I ever did it], to enhance the performance of your car. Now we decide from a "menu" of Electronic Control Modules software programs to change the way the car performs.
I am sorry for the number of posts on this thread, but if you read my posts, this freakin' 7 speed Auto Tranny ruined the car's sportiness and driveability > compared to my 07 G35X anyway. I am hoping that through the course of ownership, I will achieve total satisfaction with the perfect blend of performance, MPG, throttle response.... Thank God there's no ECM for the suspension and steering.
IMHO, if you are happy with your car's behavior - let this ride out some more before you proceed; don't be anxious about it. It will drive you Nuts; I found that to be for me.... The TSB's not going anywhere and there will be more I presume. Just be sure that your dealer tells you Specifically that they are going to Apply This!! On my 07, my dealer (not my regular Service Advisor that day), decided on their own to apply a Reflash that affected the terrific throttle response in that car (some folks didn't like it - too sensitive, I loved it). I was livid when I picked up the car - I was reading this Forum about the results. I did not want it. Anyway, long story, but excellent Dealer - ordered a new ECM that had not been reflashed with the new software at that time, installed it, under warranty - no charge. Still wasn't exactly the same but it was closer to the original.

Do you mean you couldn't get the light to blink from trying the gas pedal pump method?
TinsleyC: I couldn't either. Got the Slow Blinking CEL, but could not get to the next step of CEL going off, then a Fast Blinking that confirms the Reset. Tried it 7 or 8 times. I did the Battery disconnect anf reset the ECM that way.
I'm driving my car hard as possible in order to "retrain" 'er. The reflash is NOT a major improvement in the overall driveability, but it has ade the 7spd Auto Tranny more liveable, thus far. BTW, it has affected the DS mode too. IMO, more "buttery" less sporty.
i wanted to get this but i dont like the reports of the ds mode being effected. besides the occasional flare, my 7at has been extremely smooth. . when i want to shift fast i go to ds and give the pedal a quick stab not even 1/2 way down and it shifts very quick. so this is my fix until we have better results. thanks for all the info on the tsb everybody.
Dealer just called me -- they updated me to this new TSB version/etc... said the car is driving much smoother, none of that dragging sensation anymore and shifts are smoother.
can't wait to drive it.
can't wait to drive it.
I think we need to start tracking model year (or maybe even build date) vs results from this flash.
So far it seems the best results have come from 2009 model year, and a few "bad" results have come from 2010.
I have a 2011 and I told my dealer to take a look at the car (for my wheel/brake pedal vibration *and* the sense of engine braking at slow speeds) but I may tell them outright I dont want the new flash installed.

Peter: Let us know what you think. Post your review here too. I guess the dragging sensation you refer to is the Lagging/ hestitation when you step on it at certain speeds?
800 Miles After Re-Flash Report
I have driven 800 miles since the re-flash was performed. It was a totally new car 800 miles ago...a lot smoother and almost no lag.
After rolling in NYC traffic for few hundred of miles, and I guess because the car is adaptive, I started to feel the lag again.

There was one time it was not very responsive when I needed it the most!
The car is still smooth but not as smooth as 800 miles ago. Compared to before the re-flash, it is a major improvement. I give credit to Infiniti on this one.
Like I originally reported right after the re-flash, I felt the car was a lot lighter. But after driving in NYC traffic for few hundred miles, I begin to feel the car is heavy again.
I decided to reset the ecu using the no battery disconnect method as posted on this forum. Took me at least 20 times and eventually got it to reset.
Guess what? After the reset, my car feel like new again!
Feels lighter, very smooth, and almost no lag.
I think the whole problem here is the transmission is "adaptive". I guess it adapts the way I roll in NYC traffic!!! The problem is, I'm not in NYC traffic 100% of the time. So when I'm out of NYC traffic, it does not behave the way I expect it to behave.
My big question is, WHY ON EARTH DOES THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE ADAPTIVE?

I think I'll be much happier if it is NOT adaptive.
Until Infiniti has a better solution, I'll just simply reset the ecu once every 1000 miles.

I actually don't believe that the tranny it's adaptive. It makes no sense. There is not such thing as an adaptive transmission. Can you imagine the liability a learning transmission would cause to Infiniti? I think it's just an excuse dealers and Infiniti use to not deal with every single complain from customers.
Just think about it...
"My transmission is acting up"
"It needs to adapt to your driving style"
"Ohhhhh"
"I'm getting terrible gas milage"
"The trasmission needs to adapt to your driving style"
"Ohhhhh"
Reality is that the transmission does what is programed to do: SHIFT.

I'm not a mechanic, but as a driver, I'm judging it from my own driving experience.
I hope someone could explain it technically.
I just got the latest 10-075 TSB for my 7AT coupe. Does feel marginally smoother and for some reason upshifts seem butter smooth now although this TSB doesnt seem to cover upshifts. It has only been 2 days but I have yet to get the harsh clunk on the 2>1 downshift so Im pleased with the update.

I also think it's adaptive. Perhaps newer cars should have adaptive, normal, and sport modes. Problem solved
