It's a good time to go aftermarket instead of getting another POS oem clutch. I went with a SouthBend Stage II Kevlar clutch, SouthBend Flywheel, Z-speed slave for about $1.2k. I was in the same situation as you with the dealer but they agreed to install aftermarket for me. Total came out to be around 2k after tax and install.

My clutch went out at 11,000 miles and i went to the dealership and told them it was BS and they replaced my clutch for free and gave me a loaner car in the mean time.

I'm on my 4th G now since 04 and have never had a clutch go bad... Drove 04 till 98,600 miles, 08 till 43,000 at 39, 000 in the 09...
Don't ride the clutch! Don't hold the clutch pedal down at a light etc. for more than 10 seconds... The clutch and throwout bearing etc. will last a very long time (street use) if used properly unless there is a rare defect.

Even if I were having clutch problems (I'm not), I'd still rather have the 6MT than a slushbox automatic. I'd gladly trade the possibility of potential clutch issues for the driving enjoyment I'd get out of a manual transmission instead of the boredom I'd experience with an automatic.

+1. AT buyers regret deep down not getting a MT. If they don't, then they haven't driven one before.
I bought my car at 30k miles and was worried about the clutch, but now it is much smoother. The only difference is that it is warmer outside.

STFU You don't even own a G, if you do, then prove it with a pic.

I love to drive my cars and most of my cars have been MT's. My previous car was 6MT and I miss the constant shifting but sometimes I don't. I have a 5 speed civic to please my clutch pedal cravings.

But it's true, sometimes I wish I got the 6MT G instead (along with tech and navi), but when I'm stuck in traffic I'm glad I have a 5AT.

18k miles, and my clutch feels great. I've been driving a manual for years and never had a clutch go bad on me during ownership, even with some abusive launches. I think some people here may needs MT lessons

I will try not to hold the clutch pedal down at a light too often;p and to be honest, it's a little hard to not ride the clutch for this car or maybe it's just me.

You don't have to ride the clutch in this car, or any car bro. If you're on a steep hill, you just need to be quick with your feet.

But yeah, don't ride the clutch. It's just asking for trouble.

LOLOLOL....stuck in traffic....in Hawaii. Come on now, I'm sure the traffic there must be an absolute nightmare. Forget NY (where I live) or Los Angeles, those Hawaiians are sure having a rough time in traffic jams.

Second only to Hollywood, CA. Yes that spot in particular is worse than anywhere in NYC. lucky me I rarely get to go through that since I work nights, but the few times I have to go to Honolulu I always dread that spot.

From what I've read, it appears to be an issue with the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder's on the first production 2008 g37 6mt's. I haven't seen anyone with an '09+ complain about the issue.

I just bought a 2008 with 34,000km (21,000 miles), and although the clutch still grabs, all I can smell is clutch when I get out of the car. I plan on taking it to the Infiniti dealer on Tuesday to see what they say. I hope they replace the cylinders. Infiniti should put out a recall for those before everyone's clutches burn out.

I have am '09 G37 6MT and just had a clutch hydraulic failure also.

Have 50K on the car and everything was fine with the clutch and then without warning, when I came to a stop after exiting the highway, I could not select a gear.

Pressing the clutch pedal offered very little resistance. The pedal was operating but I could tell it was creating very little hydraulic pressure to actuate the pressure plate.

I had to shut it off, put in first, and hit the starter, starting in gear, to get away from the light. Then carefully shift without the clutch to get back home. Of course, a couple other red lights forced me to shut off / start in gear.

In my case I think the clutch disc itself is fine but the hydraulics have failed. I checked the clutch fluid and it is full. So it is likely the clutch master or slave cylinder. I guess a remote possibility is some sort of throw out bearing or pressure plate failure. However, when driving after the failure, the clutch did not slip at all.

I took it too the dealer last Sunday and dropped it off. It sounds like they are replacing everything - Slave Cylinder, Clutch, Pressure Plate, and maybe flywheel. Not sure why ALL that but they say it will be covered in warranty so I'm not arguing.

PS I think I found a small flaw in the start system. When you press the start button it will try and crank the motor until it starts or a few seconds have passed. This is fine except it got me on the way home. I stopped at a light, shut car off, put in first gear. Light turns green, guy in front of me starts to move, I hit start, starter engages moving car forward in first gear, guy suddenly stops, I step on brake, STARTER CONTINUES to TRY and crank while I am in gear with brake on. The noise it made makes me think that could not have been good for the starter! All seemed OK though.
