yes, the rods on the DEs were thin...the HR/VHR rods are much thicker...there is a comparison in these forums with a side by side photo...

as far as switching HR / VHR heads...it sounds good. i'm just not sure if there needs to be any further intense modification needed of them to interchange (unlike the honda motors). i'd just leave the VVEl and spend more on cooling no?
