Hello. My 2010 G37x is due for its first oil change, and my dealer is recommending that I use Ester oil instead of conventional. What exactly are the benefits of Ester oil? Also, I'm in the Bellevue/Redmond, WA area, and I haven't been too impressed with the service department at Infiniti of Kirkland; does anyone have any suggestions for a better place to have it serviced? Thanks in advance.

Er, also, something about reducing the noise from rattly tappets, if you suffer from that problem.

AFAIK, there's no benefit to engine life, fuel economy or anything else material.

 

Welcome to the forum. This is a topic that has bean beaten to death her on this forum over the past 2 years or so. Check out the Engine and Drive Train forum and so a search for "ester oil" and take a look at what's been said.

 

Go with Royal Purple ... better than Ester. Pamper your car, it'd worth it.
