I am thinking to escalate to 3rd party to evaluate if it is a design issue
I'm not surprised. I figured they would tell you that.

@ eauty...the upshift flare is a quick surge in rpms when the tranny is shifting. For me, it happens maybe once a week and generally between 3-4k rpms. If it happens, you'll notive since it seems to happen mid-shift. It'll definitely feel odd to you.

The "flare" will generally happen when:
Your car is already warm
You start it and take off. The first time you make the 3rd to 4th gear shift(It might be 4th to 5th, I forget). The RPMs will shoot up a little. If you aren't paying attention you probably will not notice it. At least I don't much any more.

There was a whole thread about it.

The 7AT is awesome. True that the throttle tip in is MUCH better on the 08s which respond instantly to throtle input, but I got a solution for you: FLoor it!

I have a 2010 and I dont notice any bog. I am very impressed with how it down shifts at the right time for me. I like the 7 speed at.

Hmm... DS mode, turn off VDC, pull left paddle once, and hold on tight. No lag, bog, whatever from my G37xS... *grin*

Okay, wow, that's great. But I didn't buy an AT to drive it manually

Try DS as others have previously suggested. Should solve your issue. Or you can always try and rewrite the tranny code ;-)

Using DS doesn't solve the problem, I've tried. Just because I'm in DS doesn't mean I wouldn't like a QUICK downshift at times. All DS does is keep you at a higher RPM/lower gear. Whether in D or DS, this transmission bogs down at times, giving you a nice 1-2 second delay before downshifting. This delay/bog has caught me off-guard a few times. Imagine hitting the gas, thinking you are about to accelerate quickly so you can merge into traffic, only to go no where. I'm not a nit-picky person, but aside from being annoying, it seems a little dangerous to me. As far as re-writing the tranny code....I would love for that to happen, but that's someone else's job(Infiniti). You seem to be implying that this is normal; I would hope not. My car should downshift when I want it to(whether in D or DS).

I think I have the same problem but the lag I had on my previous Lexus was even worse. Perhaps it may help if you change your driving style a little bit, e.g. more aggressive for the next hundred miles so the transmission will become more aggressive and downshift better. I am saying this because the transmission is adapting to your style as you drive. So if you tend to drive it soft, it tend to behave "softly". You also can reset the ECU and have it re-learn your style.

I already drive aggressively, and I have the tickets to prove it

My only other thought is to try turning VSD off (I realize that this doesn't fully address your issue with the car). VSD will activate at the slightest hint of wheel-spin and retard spark or cut fuel, bogging the engine, delaying a downshift, so that the car has a chance to regain traction. It usually takes the car a second or two to regain its "composure". This happened to me all the time in my '06 G35 6mt until I routinely turned it off every time I started the car. Less so in an x for obvious reasons. When you get a chance, give it a try. I'll be curious to see what you find. If you discover that VSD off improves your issue then the problem has been identified. If not, then, at least, a variable has been removed from the equation. Apologies if you have already been through this process.

And the tranny code statement of mine was meant solely as humor ;-)

Guys, I bet the Hypertech would nip this in the bud...

Funny thing is the last couple of days, the car ran great...no bog or anything. Then today on the way home from work...bog city!

For a 40k car, you're allowed to be nitpicky esp when it comes to a major component like the tranny. I'd be much less disappointed if the radio failed or something like that.

Just got back from a quick ride. Drove in D and had none of the hesitation issues that some of you are experiencing. Pulled out on to a main road and hit 30 mph then floored it. The G began downshifting immediately *BUT* had to downshift two gears. So perhaps this may also be part of the sensation of lag. Two gears will take a few more moments for sure. Repeated three times with same results. Then, from a rolling start, floored it. Immediate downshift of one gear and off I went, flying...right past a State Trooper. Bad sight-lines so he never had a chance to hit me with instant-on. The barracks were nearby so he was likely headed home for the day. Thank god. I think I am done researching for this thread ;-)
